There are two reasons why you should have a Medicare agent. No. 1, a Medicare agent is there to answer any questions you might have, so you don't have to call the insurance company and be on hold for an extended period of time. An agent should be able to answer your questions pretty quickly. No. 2, every year, if you have an agent, they can do the research and make sure that you have the best plan available. These plans do change every year, so you want to have an agent to make sure you have the best.

Medicare insurance brokers also represent multiple insurance companies and will be able to show you which companies will work better for you, also which ones are the most conservative when it comes to rate increases and who gives the best customer service, as well as staying on top of your premiums and help you change carriers if an out of line increase would occur and guide you through the process.
Finally, Medicare insurance agents DO NOT cost you or charge you ANYTHING for their services, so why would you take the chances of making the biggest mistake of your life by making a decision on your own or calling an insurance company directly and getting only 1 rate, rather than the best rate that you can get?

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent? I'm gonna divide my answer into two parts.
No. 1: Why should I work with a Medicare sales agent who works for a company versus an independent broker that works for a large entity like Health Markets and brokers for a number of different carriers? So, why should you work with a Medicare agent that works for Humana, United Healthcare, Alignment, etc.? I wouldn't. They're there to sell you a policy, and then the company follows up. If you have a problem, do you call your agent? Well, you could, and they may or may not call you back. They don't necessarily have an obligation to do that. They will more than likely have you contact the customer service department. There are some agents that will meet their commitment, but don't assume that they will. Most people don't even know the phone number of the agent they spoke to.
Now, let's go on to the second question: What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare broker? This is somebody that works in the community, represents at least five companies, and has been doing this for a long time—probably 10 years. If you can find somebody like that, hit gold! This person can assess your needs and do a diagnostic of your situation—what doctors you see, what drugs you take, nearby facilities, family history, projected costs. If you've got a spouse, are they going to care for you if you become disabled?
So, I really get to know my client's whole situation, and we can pivot around problems that we can anticipate. For example, if we know you're going to need a couple of implants, you're going to need a policy that covers those implants. Then we drill down and find the implant policies. You need to find a good cardiologist who can do that valve replacement. Well, maybe we're going to go up to Cedars-Sinai or Mayo Clinic, or maybe we want to stay with our Medicare Advantage company and see which cardiologists are in-network and if they’re truly pros.
Working with a broker who is experienced and willing to dive deep with you can honestly save your life because they can anticipate your needs and provide resources as you need them, as your relationship evolves. It's about building a trusting, long-term relationship where they will care for you. So that's the main answer—caring for you.

Medicare agents have a great forum for seniors to get their questions answered about Medicare today. What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent? There are so many right now I couldn't even list them in the 90 seconds that I have here to answer you. What you really want to look at is working with someone like myself here at my State Farm Agency on Kelly Street in Manchester who can truly advise and explain how Medicare works.
Original Medicare parts A and B, original Medicare parts A and B with a Medicare supplement added to cover your deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. Or we want to get a Medicare Advantage plan, which incorporates everything including prescription drugs. Those are the things that most seniors at age 65 really need to know before they make this all-important Medicare decision.
Let me ask, who do you know at age 65, as they get older, has better health? No one. So you need to make that right decision. Work with someone like myself who offers both Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage and can give you the pros and cons of each. I'll give you great information so that you can make a great decision for you and your family. Medicare is much too important to put off or to make an incorrect decision. I'd love to help you.

1. Personalized Guidance
An agent helps match your healthcare needs, medications, and budget to the right Medicare plan—whether it’s Original Medicare, Medigap, or Medicare Advantage.
2. Access to Multiple Plans
Independent agents represent multiple carriers, giving you a broader view of available options—not just one company’s offerings.
3. Cost Doesn’t Increase
There’s no extra cost to you—agents are compensated by the insurance companies, not by you, and your premium stays the same whether you enroll on your own or through an agent.
4. Help with Enrollment
Agents handle paperwork, explain timelines, and help avoid common enrollment mistakes that could result in penalties or gaps in coverage.
5. Ongoing Support
A good agent offers ongoing assistance—helping with plan reviews during Annual Enrollment, claim issues, or provider network changes.

A licensed Medicare agent is a subject matter expert that remains up to date and current with all things related Medicare and can make navigating your benefits and all available options much easier and less frustrating for you and your family.
When you are overwhelmed by all of the choices and the noise around your benefit options (traditional Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Prescription Drug Plans, and Medicare Advantage) and the extra benefits on top of traditional Medicare, an agent can simplify it and highlight the key differences between each option, the pros and cons with each option, and help you as the beneficiary make an informed decision.
Please keep in mind, the Medicare Agent is your resource and advocate throughout the year and not just during Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). A local, trusted, advisor and licensed Medicare agent can help you maximize your benefits, reduce your risks, gain insight to the total cost of care and max out of pocket, and help you identify the best plan to meet your individual needs.
A good, value added, Medicare Agent will maintain communication and engagement throughout the year and will take a proactive approach to any upcoming or pending changes and help you navigate any concerns or issues along the way.
The goal is to make your Medicare journey easier and to optimize your health and wellness through the various Medicare programs, benefits, and resources.
As a registered nurse and licensed Medicare Agent, we leverage our industry knowledge, along with our clinical expertise, to ensure our clients have access to the best care and programs in the market.

Hello everybody. A big question that someone asked is why should you work with a Medicare broker? The good thing about a broker compared to a captive agent, and I worked as a captive agent many years ago, is that I could only sell one carrier. If you didn't fit that profile for that carrier, or if that plan wasn't the best, that's the only thing I was able to offer you. In some cases, some captive agents push people into that product. The great thing about being a broker is I basically work for you. My concern is not with the carriers; my concern is with you, the client. I'm able to shop you around to every single carrier out there and get you the plan that makes the most sense for you. If we need to make changes down the road, we do that. But that's one of the best reasons to work with a broker. You're not paying me personally; I get paid by the insurance carriers. So, that's another thing you don't have to worry about. My services come free, and you decide what you want to do with that information. I hope that helps. Have a great day.

1. **Expert Guidance:** Medicare can be complex, with different plans and coverage options. Agents have specialized knowledge and training that can help simplify the process and clarify your options.
2. **Personalized Assistance:** A Medicare agent can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific health needs, financial situation, and preferences.
3. **Plan Comparison:** Agents can help you compare different Medicare plans side by side, highlighting the benefits, costs, and coverage differences to help you make an informed decision.
4. **Enrollment Support:** They can guide you through the enrollment process, ensuring you meet deadlines and understand your rights and responsibilities under Medicare.
5. **Updates on Changes:** Medicare rules and plans can change frequently. A knowledgeable agent can keep you informed about any changes that may impact your coverage or options.
6. **No Cost to You:** Most Medicare agents are compensated by the insurance companies, meaning their services are typically free to you as the beneficiary.
7. **Advocacy:** If you encounter issues with your Medicare coverage or need assistance with claims, an agent can act as your advocate to help resolve problems.
8. **Continuous Support:** Many agents provide ongoing support even after enrollment, so that you can reach out to them with questions or changes in your situation.
By working with a Medicare agent, you can feel more confident and well-informed about your healthcare choices.

• Agents review your providers, prescriptions, finances, and health needs to recommend plans suited to your personal needs.
• They help you avoid missed deadlines, penalties, and coverage gaps.

Medicare can be confusing, and plans change every year. A Medicare agent helps explain your options in plain language, compares plans from multiple companies, and makes sure your doctors and medications are covered. There is no extra cost to work with an agent, and you have someone you can call anytime questions come up. Most importantly, an agent helps you avoid costly mistakes and missed deadlines.

Don't cut your own hair, don't do your own taxes, and don't do your own health and life insurance policies could be added to the list.
Sure, there are exceptions, but for the most part, let a professional do their job because they are experts and will make sure you get the best outcome possible.
Unlike a barber or tax pro, where at worst you lose a few hundred buck or don't leave your house for a few days, mistakes with your Medicare could be significant.
The best argument to use a Medicare Agent, is the fact that it does not cost you anything extra. In fact, you are essentially paying for them whether you use them or not, so you lose value when you choose to DIY.
I always tell people to shop brokers, not plans. I would speak with 2–3 brokers to get their recommendations. Not all brokers are equal, some may be more experienced, offer more plans or just match your personality better.
Also note, you want a broker, not an agent. Agents represent one company, brokers represent many. Your broker should help you compare options so you are getting the best coverage for the best cost.

Here’s what I can do for you:
-Simplify the confusing parts: I’ll explain Parts A, B, C, D, and Medigap in plain language so you know exactly what you’re choosing and why.
-Match you with the right plan: I’ll look at your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and priorities, then narrow down the plans that truly fit you.
-Save you time and money: I’ll compare costs and benefits across Medigap and Advantage plans, point out hidden differences, and help you stay on top of key deadlines.
-Provide unbiased guidance: My job is to help you find the best fit—not push a one-size-fits-all plan.
-Support you long-term: I’ll help with enrollment, answer questions along the way, and do annual reviews to make sure you’re still in the right plan.
Specifically, I can help you:
-Compare Medicare Advantage, Part D prescription drug plans, and Medigap options
-Understand the fine print and insurance terms
-Complete enrollment smoothly and correctly
-Avoid compliance issues, penalties, and enrollment errors

Medicare is not one-size-fits-all
Original Medicare, Medigap, Part D, Medicare Advantage… each has different rules, costs, and trade-offs. An agent helps match your doctors, meds, budget, and lifestyle to the right setup instead of guessing.
They help you avoid expensive mistakes
Choosing the wrong plan can mean:
Doctors suddenly being out of network
Medications not being covered
Surprise bills
Late enrollment penalties that last forever
Agents know the traps and help you dodge them.
Most Medicare agents are paid by insurance companies, not by you.
They advocate for you after enrollment
This one’s huge and often overlooked.
A good agent helps when:
A claim is denied
A drug gets dropped from the formulary
Your doctors change
Your plan changes benefits next year

Medicare Insurance Agents, like myself, go through rigorous training and certification
examinations every year. The Training and Certification examinations for Medicare Advantage
Plans consist of an annual 40-hour intensive study program with a certification examination
that must be passed by a score of 90% or better. The training is administered by Americas
Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), an insurance industry regulating authority. Additionally, each
Medicare Advantage Insurer has its separate training and certification requirements. These
Certifications are mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This demanding training and certification is to
ensure that your Medicare Insurance Agent can provide you with the assistance you need.
Medicare Insurance Agents are compensated by the various Insurance companies they
represent. It is illegal for a Medicare Agent to charge a fee.

A good Medicare agent:
Explains Medicare in plain language, so you’re never left guessing
Reviews your doctors and prescriptions to make sure your plan truly fits your medical needs
Checks for changes every year, because Medicare plans can change benefits, costs, and provider networks
Helps you avoid costly mistakes, such as penalties, uncovered medications, or losing access to doctors you trust
Stays available after enrollment, so you have someone to call when questions or problems come up
Most importantly, working with a Medicare agent costs you nothing extra. The plans cost the same whether you enroll on your own or with help—but with an agent, you gain experience, guidance, and ongoing support.
For many seniors, having a trusted Medicare agent means peace of mind—knowing someone is watching out for their healthcare needs year after year.

That’s where working with a Medicare agent really helps.
Over the years, I’ve found that no two clients are the same. Some want the most predictable coverage possible. Others are more focused on keeping premiums down. Some travel, some don’t. Some take very few prescriptions, others have several. There’s no “best plan”—only the plan that fits your situation.
One of the biggest advantages of working with an independent agent is having options. We’re able to look at multiple companies and compare what’s available, instead of being limited to just one. That alone can make a big difference in both cost and coverage.
Another thing people don’t always see right away is how important timing is. There are certain windows where switching plans is easier, and other times where health questions come into play. Making the wrong move—or waiting too long—can limit your options later on.
And just as important, this isn’t a one-time decision. Plans change. Rates go up. Drug coverage changes. Doctors come in and out of networks. It helps to have someone you can call when those things happen, instead of trying to figure it out on your own each time.
In most cases, there’s no additional cost to work with an agent. The goal is simply to help you understand your options and make a decision you feel good about—not just today, but down the road as well.
At the end of the day, it’s about having someone you trust to walk you through it and be there when you need help.

The reason you want to work with an agent/broker is because we see things that you don’t. And what I mean by that is that we are trained to know the nuances of coverage and how everything interacts together. We also know exactly what to look for when there are specific needs and concerns that have to be accounted for. People can spend hours upon hours on the internet doing their own “research”, and they’re welcome to do so, but we can streamline that and have a proper solution in a small fraction of the time. Additionally, when you have questions or concerns, you have a consistent point of contact instead of a random customer service person that may or may not know how to help you.

You’ll always know we’ve got your back. We don’t get paid by you—we’re paid by the insurance company. If you call the insurance company directly, you’ll rarely get the same person twice. They all have different training, and unfortunately, they don’t always give you the right answer.
I’ve had to call multiple times myself, sometimes waiting an hour or two, just to get a correct answer. That was back in my early days, and I don’t want you to waste your time like that.
If I don’t answer right away, it’s because I’m either with another client or taking some much-needed personal time. I work hard—Monday through Saturday, and sometimes even on Sundays. While I prefer to reserve Sundays for family, I understand that when a call comes in on a Sunday, it’s usually urgent.
Rest assured, I stay trained and informed. I invest approximately 80 hours a year in certifications and training to keep up with industry changes, so I can serve you better.

A great agent will:
Offer a broad range of plans from multiple top-rated carriers — not just push one product
Complete a personalized needs assessment to match you with coverage that fits your health needs, travel habits, doctors, and budget
Research provider networks and hospital access to make sure you can get to top specialists and facilities before a crisis happens
Track changes in Medicare regulations so you stay protected year after year — and don’t miss out on plan improvements or fall into hidden traps
Support appeals, claims issues, and billing errors — because your coverage should work for you, not create more stress
Ask the right questions to uncover benefits you may be eligible for but didn’t know existed (like financial help or extra perks)
Help avoid costly enrollment mistakes — like lifetime penalties or being stuck in the wrong type of plan when your health changes
Agents complete training on an annual basis that enables us to be content experts on all things Medicare.
In short, I serve as your Medicare guide — before, during, and after enrollment. Not just a one-time sign-up, but an ongoing resource to protect your health and your wallet.

1. All Medicare health insurance plans (Part C aka Medicare Advantage)and Medicare Supplement Plans (that work only with Original medicare Parts A&B) have rates either filed with the state or approved by CMS (Medicare). So by utilizing a professional, licensed insurance broker you gain the knowledge he or she possesses about medicare and the cost will be no more than if you called some ubiquitous person on an 800 number or enrolled yourself on-line. You benefit by having a professional relationship, now and in the future.
2. Any Licensed Health Insurance Agent is able to sell you a MediGap or Medicare Supplement plan for original medicare beneficiaries.
3. Only Appointed and Certified Licensed Agents/Brokers may discuss and offer to you one of the many Medicare Part C Plans or Advantage Plans. As example, there are “82” different plans (HMO, PPO, PFFS) just in Manatee County , FL. They are offered by 13 different companies with names like Humana, United Healthcare AARP, Cigna, Aetna, Freedom, etc.. How is the average person supposed to now where to start figuring out which plan is best for them or spouse? By utilizing an independent Broker who is “Certified” with multiple company’s plans, you will get a professional analysis and exposure to many plans you may not have known existed and how to qualify for them. Names like D-SNP, C-SNP, I-SNP are available in most counties.
A D-SNP is for folks that have both Medicare and Medicaid and coordinates the benefits.
A C-SNP is for people with specific diseases like heart, lung and diabetes, etc.
The I-SNP for institutionalized beneficiaries
4. The choice should be an “Independent Insurance Broker” who will represent you to the insurance company. A “captive” or “Employed” Agent may only offer you “The Company Plans”. The independent Broker is special trained to find your needs and prescribe the best plan “This year and next.

Your local Agent can become your first point of contact for questions regarding plan benefits, claims, Rx costs etc. Better to have a local contact than wait on hold to speak with someone in a call center.
A local Medicare Agent can also assist with annual coverage reviews during the Medicare Annual enrollment period to be certain you're on the right track with coverage for the coming year.

Now, let's shift to your side of things. You have your own unique needs and wants. Whether it's finding the best care available or the least expensive option, your needs and budget are important to you.
Finally... the agent side of things. Ever experienced a pushy salesperson? It's one thing to wrestle a salesman when you know the playing field... but when you don't?!? Take your time. Find an agent that puts your interests ABOVE their own. It doesn't cost you a thing to have an expert on your side!
