Q&A with Roberto Alvarez
I picked a Medicare Advantage plan based on the low premium, but now I'm facing high copays. Did I make a mistake?
Answer: If you feel like you are not in the right Medicare Advantage plan, you can still change that plan right now during the Open Enrollment Period, which runs through the end of March. There are MAPD plans both with $0 premiums and low copays with extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships, and monthly over-the-counter benefits. Contact me, and I will be glad to show you your options.
Can I use a health savings account (HSA) to pay Medicare premiums after I retire?
Answer: Yes you can use your health savings account (HSA) to pay your Medicare premiums as well as any deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. You can also use it to pay qualified medical expenses like dental and vision.
What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?
Answer: A common misconception is that Medicare does not cost anything to the beneficiary and that it will cover all of their healthcare needs. Medicare also does not cover long term healthcare facilities or longtime healthcare at home.
Who can help me figure out this Medicare "maze and alphabet soup" it's so confusing.
Answer: Medicare consists of Part A which covers when you are in the hospital and Part B which covers your doctors and the services they order for you. To that you can add a drug plan for your prescriptions and a supplement or Medicare Advantage plan to cover your out of pocket costs.
What are the 6 things Medicare doesn't cover?
Answer: Original Medicare does not cover dental, vision, hearing, long term care and final expenses. A Medicare Advantage plan can give you extra benefits and many with no additional costs to you.
Are Medicare Advantage plans really "free," or is that just clever marketing?
Answer: There are many Medicare Advantage plans that have a zero dollar monthly premium that include extra benefits such as dental, vision, and hearing at no additional cost. It is always best to learn all the options available to you every annual election period. You may even qualify for a special enrollment period during the year.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: You want an agent with a primary goal of looking out for your best interest so with that in mind i like to do a need analysis for my client and then inform them of their options. I will make my recommendations but my client will always make the choice. Finally i will always keep my client informed of new options and be available to them.
