Q&A with Nydia Flores
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: A Medicare agent has a better understanding of the plans they contract with. The agent receive up-to-date information on changes taking place within the plans and the healthcare industry. These updates give the agent the availability to best advise the client.
What's the most frustrating misconception you have to clear up with clients about Medicare every year?
Answer: The most frustrating misconception is that Medicare covers all health insurance cost.
This is not true, Medicare covers 80% of all medical cost, the customer is responsible for the other 20% of all medical cost, including co-pays. The customers that purchase supplemental insurance like AARP or Medigap health insurance have more health coverage than those that do not purchase supplemental insurance. The Medicare insurance covers 80% and the supplemental insurance (AARP/Medigap) covers the other 20%. Having both health insurances Medicare & a supplemental insurance means that the customer is covered 100%.
How do discount cards and resources affect my Medicare Prescription Drug plan?
Answer: Hello
1. Using discount cards does not count towards your Medicare deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.
2. Discount cards can not used with Medicare part D. You can only use one or the other, not both.
3. You can use a discount card to help cover medication not covered by your Medicare Part D plan.
If you need co-pay assistance, you can apply for EPIC. EPIC is a program that helps Medicare participates lower their drug co-payment or even eliminates them.
How can I tell the difference between an experienced Medicare Broker and an inexperienced Medicare Broker?
Answer: Hello
An experienced Medicare broker will ask you questions that pertain to your overall needs and concerns. An inexperienced Medicare broker would only be concern with enrolling you into a plan without considerations.
The broker should be interested in your needs, what you want from your plan, and what you may need in the future.

I'm on Medigap Plan G, and I'm curious how my upcoming knee replacement surgery will be billed. Does the plan cover it all after my deductible?
Answer: Hello
Medigap Plan G is a supplemental insurance and considered secondary insurance. The bill will generally go to the primary insurance first, which will be Medicare. Medicare will cover at 80% of the Medical expenses. The remaining balance will be sent to Medigap Plan G, which will cover the outstanding 20% balance. You will be responsible for any copays or deductibles.

My mom is considering switching to a Medicare Advantage plan because her friends say it's better. She's scared of losing her current doctors. How can we check?
Answer: Hello
Your insurance agent should be able to check if her doctors participate with any plan she is concerning. She should also make sure her prescriptions will be covered.
