Q&A with Josh Vojtush

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Utilizing an agent or broker while on Medicare can help you navigate not just the insurance options, but answer other questions pertaining to the process, costs, potential penalties, and more. Your agent should be available to answer questions and support you throughout your time on Medicare, at no cost to you.

Are Medicare Advantage plans really "free," or is that just clever marketing?

Answer: Medicare Advantage plans cannot be touted as "free". They can be zero-premium plans that cost nothing consistently per month, even if you have to continue paying for your Medicare Part B. Unless Medicaid is involved at a certain level, you will more than likely have copays and other costs.

Isn't it time for Medicare to completely overhaul how it approaches senior care?

Answer: With 67+ million people on Medicare, it's an extremely large system. Any changes will have drastic impact across many industries. While change is absolutely necessary, it cannot be something that happens haphazardly.

I'm a low-income senior who can't afford my prescription drugs even with Medicare Part D. What specific assistance programs should I apply for?

Answer: Your best options, in my opinion, are the MSPs offered through your state's Medicaid department, or Social Security and their "Extra Help" program.

How can I save money on my Medicare Supplement?

Answer: If you already have a Medicare Supplement, you can shop around for the same coverage at a lesser cost with another carrier. Some states have different rules that decide when you can do this. Some depend on your health.

I thought I signed up for both Part A and B when I got my Social Security, but now I'm getting bills for Part B. Did I miss something during the enrollment period?

Answer: Whether you get Part B automatically due to having Social Security prior to 65, or you take Part B after 65, it has a base premium of $185 per month in 2025. That number can go up or down, depending on income, assets, penalties, programs chosen, and more. A knowledgeable broker is an invaluable resource to clear everything up.

Why is regular Medicare better than an advantage plan?

Answer: Regular Medicare is not necessarily "better" than an Advantage Plan. There are too many variables and the insurance coverage that makes the most sense is situational to each person. If an agent offers the blanket statement that either direction is overall "better" for everyone, run the other way.
