What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients?
Answered by 240 licensed agents
Medicare can feel overwhelming—too many letters, too many ads, too many opinions—and a lot of people come to me worried they’re about to make a costly mistake. I really enjoy slowing it all down, explaining things in plain English, and helping them realize, “Okay… I’ve got this.”
I also love the relationships. Medicare clients tend to be loyal, appreciative, and genuinely grateful when you look out for them year after year—not just during enrollment season. There’s something very satisfying about being the person they trust to call when a bill doesn’t look right, a prescription changes, or they just want reassurance they’re still on the right plan.
And honestly, I enjoy being able to say, “You’re already on the best plan—don’t change a thing.” That kind of honesty builds real trust, and that’s what makes this work meaningful to me.

I also value the relationships that come from this work, clients often come back year after year, and I become a trusted guide through each stage of their retirement. That ongoing connection, paired with the gratitude people show when they feel supported, is what makes this work meaningful to me.

What do I like best about working with Medicare clients? I love the expression of relief after we've gone over all of their options and explained in detail what they actually mean and what they mean to the client. That expression of relief and the gratitude saying, "Wow, Tony, you made this easy." They can make great decisions as long as they have good information, and it's very confusing out there. So work with someone like myself to give you all the options of Medicare: Medicare A and B, Medicare supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D prescription plans. That's what I do on a daily basis for our clients. We go over the Medicare alphabet soup because it is so confusing.
Remember, you're making decisions at age 65 for your health, and most of us do not have better health after age 65. So these decisions become very important the older you get, especially monetarily. Please work with someone who can help you and give you all the pros and cons of the different plans, whether it's staying with original Medicare Part A and B, getting a Medicare supplement to cover Part A and B and your out-of-pocket costs, or choosing a Medicare Advantage plan, which is Plan C. It gets very confusing, and as I said at the beginning of this, once I explain in detail, I can make it very simple, and then clients can make great decisions based on good information. Give us a try.

Medicare IS NOT one-size-fits-all health insurance. Helping someone get the plans that fits them. Knowing that someone is trusting me and my expertise to help them shop for THE plan that is affordable and has their providers covered also.
That trust is something that I've never experienced before in my professional life. The wrong plan can bankrupt someone or worse. I have seen the right plan save lives. I am thankful to be able to give guidance that impacts lives so greatly. I enjoy that beyond measure.
Thanks again for this question and God bless!

From explaining the different parts of Medicare (A, B, C and D), to helping them sign up for it, to clarifying the differences between a Medicare Advantage Plan and a Medicare Supplement Plan, to being there to assist with anything they need post-enrollment, I take great pride in helping every step of the way.
One of my primary goals is to help relieve the pressure and stress that comes with Medicare. I treat them like they're my own family members.
I also really enjoy getting to know my clients by learning about their family, their career, any travel they like to do, etc. It's one of the best parts of my job!

I also really enjoy the relationships I build. My clients aren’t just names on a list — I get to hear their stories, learn about their families, and be someone they can trust when questions come up. Being able to support people in both English and Spanish is especially meaningful to me because it lets me help even more members of my community.
At the end of the day, knowing I made the process easier and gave someone peace of mind is what I enjoy the most.

There are three things I like about working with Medicare clients. The first one is when they're aging in, this may be the first time that a beneficiary isn't afraid of using a health plan. Under 65, health plans have deductibles and copays and all kinds of mystery, wherefores and therefores, exclusions and limitations, and out of network and approvals and non-approvals. It's terrifying for most 60 to 65-year-olds to be using a health plan. So much of their work, honestly, gets kicked down the road to when they turn 65. So it can be kind of an exciting time to go, okay, now we get to look at the LMNOP or the XYZ or the Hootie Hootie Water or the Zim Bambler or the Zing Wugler. So yeah, it's very exciting to finally be able to get the data that may have been kicked down the road because of fear of using a health plan that either they procured through the exchanges or through an employer plan. So that's the first thing that's exciting. Getting them into a plan affordably is really just so brilliant.
Second of all, I like to pivot them as their needs change. I like to work with their family members to have an open and honest dialogue about optimizing their health and looking at reallocating the resources towards perhaps items that aren't covered under Medicare for wellness, such as chiropractic or massage therapy or holistic health or supplemental health or travel, or being able to work with a budget so that the health of the individual as they age becomes optimized rather than just assuming it's going to get worse and throwing more money at it. It's really kind of being educated consumers about what's available.
And then thirdly, my last favorite thing to do is probably kind of twisted. But as our parents age, they require compassion and understanding, and family needs assistance to be able to pivot their resources as the needs towards the end of life occur. I love being a sounding board and an encourager and a cheerleader to empower families to take the reins of that and take advantage of some of the resources that are available through hospice and some of the more innovative legislation that exists in some of our states. So I really enjoy being a resource for wise use of scarce resources. So three things. Thanks for asking.

Ultimately, I am an educator. Once a US Navy Instructor Pilot, I educate my clients regarding their options and will generally utilize what I call “The Ben Franklin” (after one of our country’s founders) by taking a pad… Drawing a line or 2 or 3, from top to bottom and list the positives and negatives of each course of action. Examples would be stay on the employer plan, go with Original Medicare, choose a Medicare Advantage Plan (MAPD) but which one?
As Independent Brokers specially trained to consult on Part C, Advantage Plans, and certified with numerous major companies to offer these plans we are able to properly create the comparison for our client to evaluate, for each spouse, because all Medicare is Individual.
As we together filter through medical issues, medications required, doctor preferences, cost of the policies and or copayments expected (for each spouse)… need for supplemental benefits like dental, eye, hearing, etc… clarity begins to emerge which is the dawn of “PEACE OF MIND” for this years plans. Throughout the year we stay available to continue to ensure that “PEACE OF MIND” and next Annual Election Period we do it all again… We enjoy hearing the “Thank You, We don’t know how we would have understood all of this without you!”

Knowing I’ve helped someone save money or find a plan that fits their health needs better.

What I enjoy most is helping people. Honestly, I got into insurance to help people. There are some things in my past, life-changing decisions, that led me to get into life insurance with New York Life years ago. Then I've slowly gone through life insurance, long term care insurance, funeral insurance. We have a funeral home, so pre-need, and then Medicare. I work a lot with assisted living and older adults, so Medicare plays a big part of it.
What I like most is just being able to help people find something that works best for them. Being an advocate of sorts. Not everybody likes Advantage plans, and you have to rule some of those things out. There's a lot of education and teaching that goes into that. But my big thing is watching things grow. I love helping people, and then having that moment where all that weight comes off their shoulders. We got everything they needed, they got the coverage they needed, and now they're okay. And then if something comes up down the road, I'm like, hey, call me, we'll figure it out together.
I love being able to help people in that matter. I kind of have a thing where I try to help people when I can, where I can. If I'm able to do that, then I'm going to do that. If I'm able to help somebody, then I'm going to help somebody. It's just in my nature.
In regards to that, I have an agency now and we have about 30 agents. I love watching people learn and grow to be able to help more people. With our agents, I try to instill my values in the people. We're just helping people do the right thing. If they're on a good plan, don't change it, just leave it alone. Let them know if they have something wrong, just help them out with what they have, because karma is going to come back.
So helping people and just working with folks, and you know what, the older generation, I have a lot of cool stories. So there's that next thing, to sit down, listen to some stories, listen to life stories and hear it all out. It's a great time.

Most Medicare clients feel overwhelmed, confused, or even stressed, and being able to simplify everything and help them feel confident in their decision is the most rewarding part.
It’s also the relationships. You’re not just enrolling them, you become their go to person year after year, helping with questions, changes, and even life events.
And for many, especially in bilingual communities, it’s about trust and understanding, making sure they truly get their benefits and don’t feel taken advantage of.
In short, helping people feel secure, informed, and cared for.

After breaking the ice with a new prospect it is very satisfying to see them understand I am there for their best interest…not just mine.
Clients often thank me profusely even when they find out they are already in a great Plan with no reason to change…they are grateful that I didn’t “sell” then something they didn’t need. Then they ask….”how can you come see people and not enroll them in something to earn a commission”. My answer is always the same…I am not a salesman, I am a Medicare Consultant who will either leave with a new client or leave with good karma because I left that client knowing they already had the right Plan.

Information, education, resources, guidance and service make up the building blocks for an agent to serve Medicare clients. They rely on us for Medicare and health plan updates, and when to consider making changes. It is important to schedule annual reviews with clients to assure optimum coverage, as insurance plans and premiums change from year-to-year.
Essentially, for me, offering services that are needed by others is fulfilling.

The question is, what do I enjoy most about working with Medicare clients? For me, that's an easy one. For most people, Medicare is very confusing. You get bombarded with mail, all kinds of information that crisscrosses and doesn't make sense. The joy of helping people with Medicare is helping them sort through all of that mess and really understand in simple terms what their Medicare options are, what the potential pros and cons of each of those options are, and then truly helping them zero in on what best fits their circumstance, their situation. So for me, it's educating people and helping make Medicare simple for them.

So the question is, what do I enjoy most about working with Medicare clients? I think the one thing that I enjoy the most, my wife and I work together, we're the husband and wife Medicare team. But the one thing that I like about working with Medicare people is that it's really satisfying to help people work through the complex navigations of Medicare. It's kind of cheeky to say, "Oh, I like helping people." I really do. I mean, I was a cop for 28 years, so I helped a lot of people in that time, and I'm proud of it and I like it. It just gives satisfaction. That's what we do, and that's all we do.

Hi, my name is Tasha Riggs, and today's question is: What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients? Oh my goodness, my Medicare clients are my favorite. They become friends throughout the years. I'm loyal to them, and they're loyal to me. They can pick up the phone and call me anytime and ask any kind of crazy question they want to ask. They just become friends. I just love my seniors. I love Medicare in general. I love the coverage that Medicare offers; it's way better than under-65 insurance. Just down-to-earth people. I love all my clients, so yeah, Medicare is kind of my favorite.
