Q&A with Rachel Armstrong
What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?
Answer: Meeting face to face with seniors and getting to know and understand what their needs are for their unique circumstance. Then helping them select a plan that fit their needs not just to enroll them once, but to follow them along their journey and make sure they have the right coverage for all of their needs for the long haul.
How does the Part D "catastrophic coverage" phase work once I hit the out-of-pocket max?
Answer: Once you hit the $2000 max out of pocket, your prescription medication will be free of charge for the remainder of the year.
What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients?
Answer: Medicare is confusing and I enjoying simplifying the process to those turning 65 or transitioning to Medicare. I love building long-term relationships with my clients and educating them so they can make their own informed decision about what will work best for their unique situation.
I picked the plan with the lowest premium, but now every doctor visit feels like a surprise bill. Should I have gone with a higher premium instead?
Answer: Picking a Medicare plan is very personal. It's not just about the premium - it's about how the plan fits your specific needs. The doctors you see and the medications you take can greatly affect your out-of-pocket costs. That's why it's so important to consider the prover network and the drug formulary before choosing a plan - there are the areas where unexpected bills often come from.
Which Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) offers the best value for most seniors, and why?
Answer: The most popular Medicare Supplement plan has been Plan G. This plan has the most comprehensive coverage. The only out-of-pocket costs for the beneficiary is the small annual Part B deductible.
Lately, Plan N has been climbing in popularity because of the lower monthly premium. With Plan N there may be small copays for doctor and ER visits as well as no coverage for Part B excess charges. However, only approximately 2% of doctors charge excess charges so this maybe very minimal.
Another factor Plan N is a good choice is that its rate increases tend to be smaller.
