What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients?

Answer: My favorite thing is that everyone is different, no 2 people are the same. Every person has a different story and different needs. A new puzzle everytime!

Can you describe a time when you helped a client navigate a complex Medicare issue?

Answer: My parents! My dad was overpaying and has a lot of medications, my mom has zero meds. They were very overwhelmed we had to find a good fit for my dad and his meds along with he had doctors in 2 very different networks. I ended up saving them over $600 a month!

What is the biggest disadvantage of Medicare Advantage?

Answer: Skilled nursing, which I can offer help for with an additional Indemnity product! Medicare Advantage plans only give you the first 20 days at a low copay in a skilled nursing facility, you need an additional policy for days 21 and on

Does Medicare cover health care services on a cruise ship?

Answer: Medicare works in the United States. If it is an emergency, they will treat you but we do suggest travel insurance if you will be outside of the US border.

What happens if I am already retired and collecting Social Security when I turn 65?

Answer: You will automatically be enrolled in Medicare! Which means you dont have to sign up through Social Security (really cuts down on your wait time).

What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?

Answer: That it is free. Part B does have a monthly premium, which is based on a two year look back on your income.

What is the biggest mistake seniors make when enrolling in Medicare?

Answer: Trying to navigate this alone. Always reach out to a broker to go over all of your options. You could be overpaying or the opposite not having the right coverage for your needs.

What role do you think technology will play in the future of Medicare?

Answer: Faster turn around times! With Social Security having a website, really makes the process not as stressful.

I’m retiring next year—do I need to do anything with my Medicare?

Answer: Good time for a review! Every year the plans change and your needs and life will probably change once you retire.

I picked a Medicare Advantage plan last year, and I’m not sure if my hearing aids are covered. How do I figure this out?

Answer: A good broker would be able to easily let you know how and what your Advantage plan covers. Or you can always call Member Services on the back of your insurance card and they will be able to let you know.

Is Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage better? Why do you recommend one over the other?

Answer: I dont think one is better than the other. They both do the same thing but work very differently. Its all about finding which one is better for your particular needs and lifestyle.

What happens if I delay Medicare Part A enrollment because I’m still on my spouse’s employer plan?

Answer: Simple answer is nothing! Although I do suggest signing up for Part A and just delaying Part B, that way you are in the system and when Part B does need to be activated you have a fast turn around time!

What’s an underrated benefit of Original Medicare that many people overlook?

Answer: FREEDOM of network! You can take it anywhere in the US that accepts Medicare. It will work in another state the same way it works in your home town.

What’s the trade-off between a Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO when it comes to flexibility?

Answer: Network, network, network. PPO will give you the availability to use out of network doctors and hospitals.

I’m on a supplemental Plan N, and I’m curious if my recent MRI is covered or if I’ll get stuck with a big bill.

Answer: Once your Part B deductible is met, there should be no charge for the MRI. On a Plan N you should only see a bill for your PCP and at the emergency room.

What does Medicare Part B cover? Is it enough?

Answer: Medicare Part B covers outpatient services. It works on 80/20% coinsurance, so NO it is not enough. Plus there is no limit on what you can be charged. You need a plan to come in and cover that 20%

I'm confused about when I can change my Medicare plan. Can you clarify the different enrollment periods for me?

Answer: Annual Enrollment is Oct. 15th - Dec 7th is always a good time. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan you can also make a change from Jan. 1st - March 31st. There are also a good amount of Special Enrollments (life changing events)

Why do some clients ignore your advice and end up in bad Medicare plans—what makes them resistant?

Answer: Normally that just comes from listening to a family member or friend saying they have the best plan. Everyone should have the best plan for them! Everyone is different and needs their insurance to work for them.
