Q&A with Kevin McIntire
What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?
Answer: You don't have to walk through this alone. Find a local agent you can trust and lean on them for help and guidance.
What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?
Answer: One of the most common misconceptions is that when someone has Medicare, everything is covered at 100%.
I've been on my employer's health plan but am retiring soon. What should I consider when moving to Medicare?
Answer: Timing is a big factor. Medicare plans only begin on the 1st of every month, so make sure your employer coverage extends to the end of the month before you start Medicare.
What are some ways to ensure your parents feel supported during the Medicare decision-making process?
Answer: One way to make them feel supported is to listen to what they value most in a Medicare plan and look for plans that support those values. Also, attend their Medicare appointments with them. I find that gives them more peace of mind.
What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients?
Answer: I enjoy watching the confusion disappear as I educate them, and helping them make a confident decision with their Medicare plan. It's very rewarding.
Is Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage better? Why do you recommend one over the other?
Answer: Every person is different and every situation is different. My job is to properly educate clients about each option and let their peace of mind guide the discussion.
My mom is considering switching to a Medicare Advantage plan because her friends say it's better. She's scared of losing her current doctors. How can we check?
Answer: You can contact a local, licensed agent, and they will be able to tell you what plans are considered in-network with her providers. If you're not comfortable reaching out to an agent, you can visit www.Medicare.gov, where you can review plans and in-network doctors as well.
