Q&A with George Kolitsas

Answer: Becoming a Medicare professional over night and taking on the complex system of Medicare on there own. Also, waiting until the last minute to sign up. Please start planning ahead of time and use a local broker to guide you in the right direction.

Answer: Every single day. From saving money on prescription cost, or reviewing there benefits, or helping them qualify for state specific programs that they were not aware of.

Answer: Original Medicare does not cover eye exams. However, if you replace Original Medicare and choose a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C), a lot of these plans can cover eye exams and possibly more.

Answer: Everyone I sit with is different. There are pro's and con's to both choices. I always say, I can not predict the future but I can educate you on the differences.

Answer: Medicare Advantage plans are network driven There are PPO's and HMO's, most of the time I am recommending a PPO plan to give you a little more freedom and flexibility. Also, prior authorizations and referrals can be common.

Answer: You want to make sure all of your prescriptions are listed on the specific plans prescription formulary from the start.

Answer: This is a trick question. As brokers, we can not predict the future. If you have a healthy year and used your extra benefits built into your advantage plan, then yes, you could save money. However, if you have a bad year of health issues, then you could possibly be paying more out of pocket. At the end of the day, you do have a Maximum-Out-Of-Pocket that will put a cap on your out of pocket cost for the calendar year.

Answer: In this situation, Social Security will automatically mail your Medicare card in the mail. Usually 3 months prior to the month you turn 65. This is because you are already collecting Social Security income.

Answer: Getting the same plan as your friend, because they like it. Medicare is not a one plan fits all, a plan that works well for one person might now work well for another.

Answer: Medicare is health insurance while you are living. Life insurance is life insurance for when you pass away, that can possibly come with living benefits. However, two completely different topics.

Answer: Based on my experience with helping individuals and families, yes. Medicare's systems needed an update 5 years ago!

Answer: Do you have a full understanding of Medicare? Are you enrolled into Medicare Part A and Part B? Have you ran a prescription formulary review? Have you spoken to a local broker to give you advise? If you are turning 65 next month, please start planning today!
