My friend lives in a different city and has a much more detailed Medicare plan. Is their plan dependent on their location?

Answered by 12 licensed agents

There should be little to no difference in coverage between traditional Medicare Part A and B and with a Medigap plan. Of course, some states require a few extra details in the Medigap plans, such as prevented care items.

Medicare Advantage plans differ in some ways in providing requirements and services within and between states. These decisions are not Medicare decisions. They are based on the insurance carriers that provide these Advantage plans and the individual state regulations.

Yes. You must enroll in a plan available in the service area that matches your legal address. My friends and family members give advice to and mention specific plan benefits. Plan specifics differ across the country. If there is a benefit that you are interested in, please ask. If you don't mention something, your advisor may never know that it was important to you. We ask as many questions as we can to start a conversation, to determine what is most important for each potential client.

Medicare Advantage plans service a specific geographic specific area - and the plans offered could have differences. So, where you live determines which plans you can enroll in. You cannot enroll in your friend's plan if you do not live in the service their plan covers.

Absolutely not! Though there are a small amount of rules that can vary from one State to another, it usually happens with a Medicare Advantage plan though it is rare to see that.

Depending upon the individual insurance company, if they are well-known, they will do everything possible to broach all Medicare topics with a fine tooth comb. It could be that your individual agent is fairly new to the business and has yet to acquire all of the digital files available to forward to their customers.

This is a sin as the upper managers need to instruct the neophytes about how to get their numerous messages across. So, when you became Medicare-eligible, I hope that you realized that you need to obtain 2nd and even 3rd opinions from multiple-aged agents. That is why many clients appreciate that old expression about someone like me: "There may be snow on the mountain but there is still fire in the furnace!". If you're not fully understanding about any Medicare-related rule, try searching on the Medicare.gov website in the open horizontal box. You may be surprised at what you can find.

YES Medicare plans are based on the area you live in and if you move and change your address with Medicare you need to review plan options in your new area.

Yes, Medicare Advantage plans have a service area. Someone in the next county can have access to plan that aren't in your county. That's why any agent you talk to will ask for your zip code and they will ask you your county if that zip code is available in more than one county.

Depends. Most detailed Medicare supplement plan available is F. Which is no longer available for people new to Medicare

If she has a Medicare advantage plan then it depends on the company and zip code. Her plan may or may not be available to you. Talk to her agent is my recommendation. Good luck

Yes, Medicare Advantage and Part D (Rx) plans are based on county of residence. Some plans may be the same in multiple counties within a state, but often they are different plans.
