Q&A with Olyvia Maki
What's the key difference in how Medicare Advantage and Medigap handle out-of-network providers?
Answer: Depending on the type of Medicare Advantage plan is you could be responsible for all costs when going out of network. With Medigap plans, you can go to any hospital or doctor that accepts Medicare.
My friend lives in a different city and has a much more detailed Medicare plan. Is their plan dependent on their location?
Answer: Yes, your plan is dependent on your zip code and more than likely the county you are in. Each county might offer different plans from different companies, or even the same company can offer a different plan in a neighboring county/city.
Can you help me understand Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) limits in Medicare plans, from your experience as an agent?
Answer: A Maximum Out of Pocket limit is the maximum amount you will spend on your Medicare approved medical services/needs. Once the out of pocket is reached your services will be covered at 100% as long as they are Medicare approved services.
How much is the Medicare deductible in 2026?
Answer: The Part A Hospital deductible is $1,736 and the Part B deductible is $283. Once your part B deductible is met, you will pay 20% coinsurance on your Medicare approved services.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: In my opinion, working with a local agent is beneficial because there are things that they are going to know about happening locally. For instance, what hospitals are in-network or out of network, where your dental insurance/eye insurance is accepted, and we truly care about you and our community because we live here to! We want the best for our neighbors.
What is a $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan, and what's the catch?
Answer: A $0 premium advantage plan is just that. You will have a $0 monthly premium each month. The catch is that you still have other payments to make in the form of copayments, coinsurance, deductibles to meet, and an out-of-pocket maximum.
