Think about a field of horses. Many are bare-backed with their manes flying free and tails waving in the breeze behind them. They find the greener pastures and roam well. Another group of horses has bridles in their mouth, blinders over their eyes, and a saddle on their backs. THOSE are the Medicare Advantage horses! They are not free to see any provider or facility they choose. They are limited to where they can consider to go. They do not have free rein to get to the greener grasses or the best areas to move healthily. Only if they are ridden or directed to those areas can they go. But never the greener pastures where the best opportunities are.
Original Medicare puts the power of your health into YOUR Hands. You are not locked into Networks, or kept from seeing the best in practice, because those professionals aren't in your Network. No referrals needed!
Why eliminate the best facilities, such as Moffett, Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, or Johns Hopkins, for your health needs, when they are the best specialists in the country? Isn't your health important to you?

The underrated benefit of original Medicare is that it travels with you nationwide. Most doctors, I would say 90 to 95% of doctors nationwide, accept original Medicare. I'm here to help.

By far, the most underrated benefit of Original Medicare that many people overlook is how efficient it is at getting you to the front of the line with the largest number of doctors and facilities across our entire great country. Most people are so busy looking at the nickels and dimes associated with the Medicare Advantage policies, you know, that you get $500 of dental and you get $600 over-the-counter benefits, and they start counting that up. They think, "Well, it's gonna save me this much." I get it, our seniors are on a tight budget, so they compare that to having to pay another $155 for a G policy, another $5 for a drug plan, and maybe another $50 for a dental policy. They look at that and say, "Oh my God, I can't possibly afford that."
Here's the question I ask my clients that separates them from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare: If you had something that was gonna kill you and there was one guy in the country, and he's over at Mayo Clinic or NYU or Cedars, or he's somewhere else, right? It's not in your community. Would you get on an airplane and go see him so he could save your life? If your answer is yes, that's the most important thing that's overlooked with Original Medicare. Yes, you're paying more, and yes, you might not even see a doctor that year, but yes, you have the choice to get access to the best medical care I believe on the planet. It's right at your fingertips. You do have to pay for it; it does cost a little bit. But with budgeting, knowledge, foresight, and planning, you can have access to the best of the best and not need a damn referral. It's brilliant. What a gift to our seniors!

If one chooses a Part C Medicare Advantage plan, then this is no longer "original Medicare" as it combines Part A Hospital and Part B Medical. Often, it will include Part D Prescription Drug Coverage. Medicare Advantage plans are sold by private insurance carriers as an alternative to original Medicare.
With that being said, the underrated benefit of Original Medicare that many people overlook is the flexibility and ability to see any doctor or specialist or use any medical facility as long as the providers accept Medicare. One does not have to worry about networks. One does not have to worry about losing a medical professional. If traveling, one does not have to worry about getting back home due to being outside of a network. With original Medicare, there is no network.

Good morning, and thank you for your question!
In my experience, one of the most underrated benefits of Original Medicare is its nationwide access to doctors and hospitals.
Across the United States, medical providers must enroll in Medicare and obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI). When they accept Medicare assignments, they agree to accept Medicare’s approved amount as full payment for covered services, meaning you’re responsible only for the standard 20% coinsurance after meeting your Part B deductible.
Because of this, Original Medicare offers one of the largest networks of doctors in the country, with no network restrictions. You can see any provider who accepts Medicare, almost anywhere in the U.S.
By comparison, Medicare Advantage plans operate within defined provider networks and may require referrals or prior authorizations for certain types of specialized care.
Of course, there’s a trade-off: Original Medicare doesn’t include routine dental, vision, hearing aids, over-the-counter allowances, or the out-of-pocket maximum protection that many Medicare Advantage plans provide.
My best advice is to speak with a local, licensed health-insurance broker who can review your options and help you compare Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage based on your personal health and budget. Reviewing your coverage each year ensures you stay protected and informed as plans change.

1. You can go to any Doctor and any Hospital across the United States that takes Original Medicare which is over 98%. And you will not need a referral. You are in charge of your healthcare, not an Insurance Company.
2. You do not need to get preauthorized and approved for procedures from an Insurance Company.

But here’s something nobody talks about.
Home health and skilled nursing coverage that actually works.
Not just a flashy promise.
Real help.
Wound care, physical therapy, recovery support.
If your doctor says you need it and you meet the rules, it’s covered.
No begging for approval. No waiting on hold. No network games.
Same with rehab after a hospital stay.
Original Medicare doesn’t nickel and dime your recovery.
It’s not flashy, but when you’re coming out of surgery or caring for a loved one, this kind of support matters.
And most folks don’t realize it until they’re already in the thick of it.
By then, switching plans might not even be an option.

are folks who don't realize that there is coverage. When one sees a psychologist, it would be advisable to ask her/him if there is anything they can add to their visits that would complement them through the Medicare system at no added costs? Depending on the plan they picked up at age 65, additional counseling can be very helpful.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
Flexibility and Choice:
With Original Medicare, you can see any doctor, specialist, or hospital that accepts Medicare, regardless of where they are located within the U.S. This is particularly beneficial for those who travel frequently, have specialized needs, or want to access care at top-ranked hospitals across the country.
No Referral Requirements:
You don't need a referral from a primary care physician to see a specialist with Original Medicare. This allows for direct access to the care you need, when you need it, without navigating referral processes or waiting for approvals.
Network Limitations of Medicare Advantage:
Medicare Advantage plans often have networks of providers, and you may face higher costs or limited coverage if you choose to see a doctor outside of that network. This can be a significant drawback for individuals who have established relationships with doctors or specialists who are not in a particular plan's network.
