Q&A with Michael Waldron
If someone enrolls in a MAPD C-SNP and gets disenrolled for not providing a CCV form within 60 days, is there a SEP to enroll in another MAPD plan?
Answer: Yes, there is another SEP available to help you be placed in another-SNP or MAPD plan that best fits your needs.
How can I lower my Medicare Part B premium if my income drops after retirement?
Answer: Contact Social Security and ask them to lower your Medicare Part B premium by filing Form SSA-44. You will need to report a “life-changing event” such as work stoppage. They will use this to recalculate your premium based on your new, lower income instead.
I have Medicare Advantage with a PPO, and I'm curious if my annual wellness visit is free or if I'll owe something for it.
Answer: The Annual Wellness Visit is provided at no cost to you—no copay, deductible, or coinsurance—when you see a doctor in-network. With a PPO, you can go to any doctor you want, however if the doctor is out-of-network you will be charged a copay or coinsurance fee. A list of your copay and fees are listed in the Summary of Benefits (SOB) for your specific plan name.
What's one Medicare decision that too many people regret later?
Answer: One is waiting too long to enroll, which can lead to lifelong penalties and gaps in coverage. Another is picking a plan without really comparing options, only to find out later it doesn’t cover the doctors or benefits they need.
Could Medicare ever adopt a tiered premium system based on lifestyle factors?
Answer: It’s unlikely, since Medicare is built to give everyone equal access regardless of lifestyle or health choices. Changing to a tiered system would be complicated and go against the program’s foundation of fairness and shared risk.
My Medicare Advantage plan covers dental, but I can't find a dentist who accepts it. Is this a common problem?
Answer: Yes, it’s pretty common because many Medicare Advantage dental networks are smaller and can be tricky to navigate. The best step is to call your plan directly for an updated provider list or work with an agent who can help you find a dentist that actually takes your coverage.
I'm living solely on Social Security of $1,400 monthly and can't afford my Medicare premiums and copays. What assistance programs might help someone in my situation?
Answer: Programs like the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help that can cover your premiums, lower your copays, and even help with prescriptions if you’re on a limited income. With $1,400 a month from Social Security, you’d likely qualify, and an agent can walk you through applying so you don’t miss out on the help.
What's an underrated benefit of Original Medicare that many people overlook?
Answer: One big benefit folks often overlook is that Original Medicare lets you see any doctor or hospital in the country that takes Medicare, without worrying about being stuck in a network. That kind of freedom can give you real peace of mind, especially if you travel or want flexibility in your care.
Isn't it time for Medicare to completely overhaul how it approaches senior care?
Answer: I think it’s less about a complete overhaul and more about making Medicare simpler, clearer, and more focused on what really matters for seniors. People deserve care that’s easy to understand, affordable, and truly supportive of their health and daily lives.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: A Medicare agent helps you understand your options and avoid costly mistakes so you can choose the coverage that best fits your needs. They also provide ongoing support at no cost, giving you peace of mind every step of the way.
