Does Medicare cover Silver Sneakers?

Original Medicare does not include SilverSneakers. It's not a government benefit. SilverSneakers is a fitness program that some private insurance plans add as an extra perk, most often certain Medicare Advantage plans, and some Medicare Supplement carriers offer similar fitness programs.

So whether you have it depends entirely on which plan you have, not on Medicare itself. Some plans include it, some offer a different fitness benefit, and some offer none at all.

Two pieces of advice. First, check your current plan before assuming you don't have a fitness benefit, because plenty of people have one and never use it. Second, if a gym benefit matters to you, bring it up when we review your coverage, but don't let a perk drive the whole decision. Your doctors, medications, and costs matter far more than a gym membership.

Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) doesn't cover Silver Sneakers. 

However, there are Medicare Advantage Plans and MediGap plans that may cover Silver Sneakers for the members. Today, there are several similar programs available through various carriers. There are programs like: Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit, ReNew Active, and other programs designed to promote health, fitness, and wellness at home. 

The fitness/wellness extras you can get through Medicare Advantage and MediGap Plans are great programs and add a lot of value for members. If you have a plan that offers the benefit, consider using it and learn how to optimize your "EXTRA BENEFITS" with your plan.

Original Medicare does not cover Silver Sneakers, a gym membership within the Silver Sneakers network of gyms across the US. However, many Medicare Advantage Plans do offer this benefit for no additional cost and select Supplements do as well. Other carriers offer similar fitness and wellness programs branded under different names.

Medicare can cover silver sneakers, but it's not the Medicare that everyone talks about. Medicare itself is a government entity. They will not be paying for your silver sneakers. However, the Medicare Advantage plans that are offered by private insurers may offer to pay for your SilverSneaker Access. In addition, some Medicare Supplements will, although it's very rare, and I typically don't recommend packaging your gym membership with your Medicare Supplement premium.

Traditional Medicare does not cover Silver Sneakers. Silver Sneakers is an added benefit on many Medicare Advantage Plans.

Traditional Medicare does not include Gym memberships. This is an extra benefit, usually included with Medicare Advantage plans or Medicare or Medigap Supplement plans.

Yes, most Medicare Advantage plans do work with Silver Sneakers there is also another plan similar called One Pass that works just like the Silver Sneakers program too.
