Does Medicare pay for eyeglasses?

Answer: Straight Medicare (Part A or B) does not pay for eyeglasses. However many Medicare Advantage Plans do offer Vision benefits including eyeglasses at a reduced benefit.

What are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) in Medicare Advantage?

Answer: Special Needs Plans are plans under Medicare advantage that help members with chronic conditions such as diabetes or certain heart issues.

There is also DSNP’s that are for people that are on Medicare and Medicaid and most likely may have special needs within their health as well.

Does Medicare cover SilverSneakers gym memberships?

Answer: Medicare itself does not cover silver sneakers, but some of the Medicare insurance plans do offer it as part of the benefit package.

My friend said she got a free annual physical with Medicare, but my doctor billed me. What's going on?

Answer: Medicare does cover an annual "wellness visit" at 100%. However when it comes to annual physicals, depending on what the doctor does or orders (testing etc.), the member may incur some out of pocket costs. Sometimes errors occur from the visit such as incorrect billing codes or misunderstanding expectations as to what was requested by the doctor or the member.

Why are hospitals not taking Medicare Advantage plans?

Answer: Hospitals are reluctant to accept MA plans because they do not feel that the reimbursement from the carriers are enough and not worth doing business.

What are the disadvantages of a Medicare Advantage plan?

Answer: Some disadvantages of a Medicare Advantage plan is having co-pays and the increase of the co-pays over the years. Also some Medicare Advantage plans may have weak provider networks which can cause unnecessary stress either changing plans or starting over with a new doctor.
