Missy Nevin, Medicare Insurance Broker
About Me
I specialize in Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Medicare Advantage plans, helping people understand their options so they can make decisions with confidence.
Before becoming an agent, I worked in corporate training, where I designed and delivered health insurance education programs for hundreds of individuals each year. That experience allows me to take complex Medicare topics and explain them in a way that’s simple, clear, and easy to understand.
As an independent agent, I’m not tied to any one insurance company—so my advice is always unbiased and focused on what’s truly best for you.
I believe this process should never feel overwhelming. My goal is to make sure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident in your decisions every step of the way. I take the time to listen, answer your questions, and guide you at your pace.
If you’d like straightforward guidance and someone who genuinely cares about getting it right for you, I would be honored to serve you.
Q&A with Missy Nevin
Does Medicare cover SilverSneakers gym memberships?
Answer: Original Medicare does not cover Silver Sneakers. However, there are several Medicare Supplement plans and Medicare Advantage plans that do provide this benefit.
Are there plans that allow me to continue to travel anywhere and be covered?
Answer: Yes! If you travel frequently, a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan may be a great fit for you. Unlike many Medicare Advantage plans, Medigap plans generally do not have provider networks, so you can see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare patients. Some Medigap plans also include limited coverage for emergency medical care while traveling outside the United States.
I just enrolled in Medicare, and I've got my Part A and B, but I'm hearing there are gaps in coverage. What are these gaps exactly?
Answer: Original Medicare alone does not cover everything. For example, with Part A you have a large deductible and copays for extended stays in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. With Part B, Medicare typically pays 80% for outpatient services, and you are responsible for the remaining 20%. There is no cap on what you could spend out of pocket. That is why I recommend either a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan to fill in these gaps.
My parent takes several brand name prescriptions, how do we know which plan saves the most money overall?
Answer: Go to Medicare.gov and from the Health and Drug Plans drop down menu, select Find Health and Drug Plans. Enter your zip code and click continue. Then select Medicare Drug Plan (Part D) and click Find Plans. Follow the prompts and enter all of the medications your parent is taking. It will give you a list of drug plans in your area, with premiums and estimated annual and monthly out of pocket costs. If you need assistance, call a local Medicare advisor for help.
Why not just call the insurance carrier directly?
Answer: An independent agent can help you compare different carriers and their plans/networks. There is no cost to you for going through an agent and an agent's expertise can help you avoid costly mistakes that could potentially leave you stuck in a plan that does not meet your individual needs.
How do I appeal a decision by Medicare or my plan if they deny coverage for a procedure or medication I need?
Answer: I’m sorry you were denied coverage, I know that must be stressful. You should’ve received a Medicare Summary Notice with instructions on how to file your appeal. Be sure to get a letter from your doctor with any supporting evidence that will bolster your claim. If you need assistance, you can contact your state health insurance assistance program. I understand that a large percentage of appeals are successful. Wishing you luck!
