How can I find new doctors in my network?

Most carriers have online member sites that you can search for specific doctors and specialties within your plans network. Other sources you can call are your broker or member services for your current plan.

Easiest way is to go on your carrier's website and look for the tab labeled "Find a Physician or Find a Doctor".

That will tell you that they are in network with your carrier. If you type in a name and they are not listed as in network, give their office a call to confirm. The websites are not always the word of truth.

Most insurance companies have an online provider lookup tool, and you can also call the customer service number on the back of your ID card to double-check if a provider is in network. I’d be careful about relying only on what the doctor’s office says, because many carriers have multiple networks and it’s easy for things to get mixed up.

Pro tip: some doctors choose not to appear in the carrier’s online directory even though they still accept the plan. Working with a local Medicare broker can help uncover providers that may be in network but harder to find online.

You can go to your insurance's website and look for their "find a provider" on the page. Each site is a little different, but you'll put in your zip code, then choose your plan. Usually you can search a specific doctors name or you can search the area of practice (like Nephrology) and it'll give you a list of providers in your plan. You can also (usually) limit your distance of search so you're not finding doctors fifty miles away!

Your insurance carrier should have an online search available to confirm if your desired providers are in network. As well, you may contact the providers directly.

I represent UnitedHealthcare here in the Seattle area. UHC contracts with all the major hospitals/clinics along the I-5 corridor except Kaiser which is its own entity. So, all the providers within those contracted hospitals/clinics are covered.

A supplement does not have a network but the Medicare.gov site allows you to check for doctors that will "accept" Medicare patients.

There are a few was, depending on the carrier support system and the members comfort level with computer systems.

Most carriers will have a "doctor search" or "find" feature on their website. This is usually quite reliable but may not always be 100% up to date.

Most carriers will also have a printed booklet available that you can request to be sent to you.

Finally, if you call the customer service number on your enrollment card, a customer service specialist can make a few suggestions for local providers.

If there is a provider you would like to see, but you do not find them on the list, call the provider directly and ask. They may bill under the name of a clinic or some professional organization that they are part of. Sometimes, the specific doctor is not listed.

If you are on Traditional Medicare Part B and a Medigap plan, there are no provider networks. If you are on a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, the insurance company that you are signed up with will have a provider directory on their website where you can search for doctors by name or specialty.

If you're looking at plans for 2026 and thinking of changing insurance companies, you can search provider directories as a guest user (no login required) so you can make sure that all of your current providers are in-network with any plan that you are considering switching to.

If you use a broker or agent, we can also help you with this task and make sure that your current providers are in-network with your plan options for 2026.

If it is a Medicare advantage plan that company that you are with normally would have a find a Doctor tool to find new doctors. You could talk to your agent. Or you could call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask them to help you find another doctor. The customer service team can also normally send a doctor directory to you.
