Q&A with Monica Gardner

How do you educate clients who are completely new to Medicare?

Answer: I just explain to them that Original Medicare Parts A and B cover 80% of their hospital (inpatient) and doctors (outpatient) healthcare. Typically there is no monthly premium for Part A but Part B does not have have a monthly premium, which is 2025 is $185 a month, plus any late enrollment penalties. And the best thing to do about the other 20% is to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Supplement.

How can I lower my Medicare Part B premium if my income drops after retirement?

Answer: You could request an IRMAA reconsideration by filing a SSA-44 Form with the Social Security Administration to report your retirement and reduction in income. OR Check to see if you are eligible for a Medicare Savings Program or Medicaid. You can also apply for LIS ( the Extra Help Program).

How can I find new doctors in my network?

Answer: You can either go onto the carrier (insurance company) website and search by selecting the name of your current plan and proceed by searching the name of your doctor, clinic or address. Or you can contact your agent or a nearby broker and they can help you with that.
