Q&A with April Cintron

I live in Tennessee, turn 65 in August, and signed up for Medicare Part A only. I have coverage through my wife’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, which she’ll keep for about seven more years. Will I owe a penalty now or later if I wait until she retires to get Part B?

Answer: Yes you will. There will be a penalty for signing up for Part B later. It’s always good to get the part B when it is first offered to prevent penalties down the road.

Why does Medicare allow insurance companies to bombard seniors with confusing mail and TV ads?

Answer: It’s part of marketing. It allows the carriers to offer their products to you. Some agents will send out mailers too me being one of them. I only mail out post cards and birthday cards.

If I move to a rural area, how might that limit my Medicare Advantage plan options?

My Advantage plan says I need a referral just to see a dermatologist. I thought PPOs didn't require that - was I wrong?

Answer: Depending on what plan you have, you may need a referral some plans require a referral if I knew more I could help more

Can you help me understand Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) limits in Medicare plans, from your experience as an agent?

Answer: Yes, MOOP limits means that’s the most you will have to pay for the year. For instance: if you have a MOOP of $7500 then once you reach that you shouldn’t have to pay any more. This includes Dr visits, hospital visits and meds.
