As an alternative, you may go to any Emergency Room facility and be considered to be in-network, but it must be an emergency.
And as a third option, you may go to any Urgent Care facility without an appointment.
Some plans may also cover overseas travel emergency medical care.

However, if you travel worldwide, you do have emergency coverage with most Medicare advantage plans out of country.

For extensive international travel, consider purchasing a Medicare Supplement policy with foreign travel emergency coverage or a separate travel insurance policy.
For domestic travel, some Medicare Advantage Part C plans offer coverage outside their service area, but with higher costs, and coverage may be limited if you spend extended time in one place.

Original Medicare + a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan – You can see any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, and many Medigap plans (like Plan G and Plan N) include limited foreign travel emergency coverage.
Medicare Advantage PPO Plans – Many let you see providers outside your home area, sometimes nationwide, but your costs may be higher if they’re out-of-network.
Medicare Advantage HMO Plans – These usually only cover you in-network, except for emergencies or urgent care while traveling.
If you travel often—whether across the U.S. or internationally—we can focus on plans that keep you covered wherever you go, so you don’t have to worry about surprise bills.

Medicare Advantage HMO plans are often local, and have limited coverage elsewhere in the USA
Same for PPO, unless have network affiliates across the country, like BCBS, Humana, UHC...
Medicare supplement plans allow you to go to any doctor/hospital anywhere in the USA. Best option.
Plans have emergency coverage outside of the USA. Max of 50K, covered at 80%
If you travel outside the USA, get a travel medical plan. Try Allianz travel inurance.

A couple of Medicare Supplemental plans like Plan G or Plan N offer limited coverage abroad. Usually they'll cover 80% of the bill, after a $250 deductible up to a maximum lifetime amount of $50000. Check with your agent to see which plan works for you.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can be seen at any emergency hospital or urgent care throughout the United States. Some Medicare Advantage plans have National providers, even if the plan is an HMO plan AND lastly, a Medicare Advantage PPO plan allows you to see doctors in and out of network (these PPO plans are becoming less and less in 2026).
Hope that helps answer your question. robin

Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) often have network restrictions, so coverage may be limited when traveling outside your plan’s service area. Some plans offer coverage for emergency care when you’re traveling within the U.S. or even abroad, but it varies by plan.
However, If you travel frequently, there are plans designed with more flexible coverage or travel benefits. I can help you find a plan that fits your travel needs and ensures you stay protected wherever you go.
Feel free to reach out, and we can review your options together!

If you're within the US, Medicare A&B provider coverage nationwide and you can see any doctor or hospital that accepts your Medicare benefits. The Medicare Advantage plans vary. The PPO plans offer nationwide coverage but you will pay more for out of network providers, whereas, HMO plans require you to stay within network for coverage, except for emergencies. There are some plans that offer a visitor or traveler benefit that can provide coverage for a determined amount of time per year outside of your regular service area.
For International travel, Medicare does not cover outside of the US with very limited exceptions. For International coverage, there are some options. Medigap plans, C, D,F, G, M, and N have foreign travel emergency coverage and some Medicare Advantage plans include International emergency coverage.
Before choosing a plan, review what you have with your travel plans in mind and see if you need to make changes to accommodate your upcoming travel and healthcare needs.
