Are there plans that allow me to continue to travel anywhere and be covered?

You will have coverage wherever you travel to in the country. If you are traveling for months at a time there are companies and plans that may accommodate you better. If you are traveling out of the country adding trip insurance is a good idea.

Yes—there are options, but the type of plan matters.

Original Medicare + a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan – You can see any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, and many Medigap plans (like Plan G and Plan N) include limited foreign travel emergency coverage.

Medicare Advantage PPO Plans – Many let you see providers outside your home area, sometimes nationwide, but your costs may be higher if they’re out-of-network.

Medicare Advantage HMO Plans – These usually only cover you in-network, except for emergencies or urgent care while traveling.

If you travel often—whether across the U.S. or internationally—we can focus on plans that keep you covered wherever you go, so you don’t have to worry about surprise bills.

If you are going to be traveling quit a bit then I would recommend that you do a medicare supplement to utilize the lack of networks. A supplement G or N would be a great option (along with an appropriate drug plan) to get you coverage while traveling the United States. There are some PPO plans with good networks that allow you to utilize In/Out of network benefits (you will pay higher copays when out of network). I have several "snow birds" that use their plan both in Indiana and in Florida just the same. It is very important if you are going to go this route to verify that your primary doctors are in-network in both locations (such as snow birds).

Yes, if you have true Medicare Supplement plan which is a Medigap there is no network and you can any doctor in the country as long as they accept Medicare.

Only Medicare Supplements can afford you the luxury of being fully covered wherever you go where they except Medicare because these are not network based plans like the Advantage Plans however you are covered for ER and Urgent Care outside your area with the Advantage plan.

Some Medicare supplement plans come with a 50,000 benefit with your coverage for out of country, or several Part C Medicare advantage plans also offer out of State or other country benefits.

A national company, such as United Healthcare, Humana, or Wellcare, may offer a nationwide network of doctors to locate necessary services at your location.

As an alternative, you may go to any Emergency Room facility and be considered to be in-network, but it must be an emergency.

And as a third option, you may go to any Urgent Care facility without an appointment.

Some plans may also cover overseas travel emergency medical care.

Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) generally provides coverage nationwide, so you can get care anywhere in the U.S. However, it doesn’t cover non-emergency care outside the U.S.

Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) often have network restrictions, so coverage may be limited when traveling outside your plan’s service area. Some plans offer coverage for emergency care when you’re traveling within the U.S. or even abroad, but it varies by plan.

However, If you travel frequently, there are plans designed with more flexible coverage or travel benefits. I can help you find a plan that fits your travel needs and ensures you stay protected wherever you go.

Feel free to reach out, and we can review your options together!
