Are some Medicare Advantage providers better than others?

Answered by 27 licensed agents

That depends on where you live. If you live in a large metropolitan area, you'll have more choices. Living in a rural area, you'll have limited choices or no choice at all. Medicare Advantage plans do have a Star rating. You can call Medicare to ask about some of the 4 and 5 Star plans. Work with a licensed Medicare agent to review the plans available in your area.

Because CMS uses a variety of measurements, and there are many plans throughout the nation, it's difficult to say that one carrier is better than another. A better way to judge plans is by looking at their STAR Ratings. All Advantage plans are rated on a 5 star system, 5 stars being the highest rating. Use a local broker to help you determine the highly rated plans in your area.

Medicare advantage plans are all very strictly adhere to the Medicare rules. The most responsible part an agent does is assist possible members to understand how their program works. They all work the same way, but some are better than others. I represent the top 5 companies in 7 State.

Voss Speros here, Greek god of Medicare. We are in AEP, and the question today is, are some Medicare Advantage plans better than others? Yes or no? Medicare Advantage plans have networks, and they can be PPO or HMO. Then there are drugs in their formularies, and it's extra benefits built on top of that. The guide depends on what you're looking for. Not all plans have the same doctor network, and not all plans have the same formulary. Some plans get more benefits, and some plans give less benefits on the extra curricular stuff, the ancillary products.

So really, it depends on what you're looking for. Some of the PPO plans are great because they give you an in-and-out-of-network feel. If somebody's saying you need to go back to original Medicare, it's not just going from PPO to your HMO. They can bill out of network on the other side. If maybe you need more dental or maybe you need more vision, or maybe you don't want something special that's built into another plan, there's a plan coming out that covers naturopathic doctors. Maybe that's what you need or what you prefer. Then that plan would be the best plan for you if it works out the best way.

Some plans are adding in chiropractor, acupuncture, and even a day at the spa. Not a full day, but maybe a couple of nails' worth of money. Then some plans offer extra money for green fees on top of the health care. So if you're pretty healthy and you play a lot of golf, that plan might be a good plan.

So really, it depends on what's best for you, and everybody's different. So give us a call. We'll do a plan review and see what works best for you. Have a good day!

There are many differences between the various Medicare Advantage companies. Looking at their network is important. Some companies have National Networks and some companies have smaller/local provider specific networks. You can look at their star ratings, co-pays, and max out-of-pocket costs

Just to name a few of the details. There are many details that you should look at before choosing a Medicare advantage plan to make sure all of those details fit what you need for your specific needs.

As with any service, some providers are better than others. Some personalities mesh better with one provider versus another. A lot of things to take into consideration when choosing a provider.

The word better would be the reflection of someone’s personal opinion and experience with a particular carrier. The Center for Medicare publishes star ratings for every plan and this can be a useful way for people to see how a particular plan is rated.

Better, no. More suitable to your needs, yes.

Advantage plans come in all shapes and sizes, but they also are based off your home residence zip code. If your relative that lives up the street, lives in a different zip code, they would/could have access to different plans.

We always say everybody is different, not in terms of needs, but finances, location, health, etc..

You should never pick a plan because someone else already has it and it's worked for them.

Yes, some Medicare Advantage carriers are definitely better than others.

But "better" really depends on what matters most to you. Some have low copays but few doctors in their network. Others cover a wide range of providers but are a nightmare when it comes to customer service or don't cover your specific medications. Some make it hard to get things approved or change up your meds halfway through the year, which no one enjoys dealing with.

The key is knowing how the plan actually works in your area and not just what the brochure says or what worked for your neighbor. What looks great on paper might be a mess once you try to use it.

No one plan or carrier is a great fit for everyone. That’s why we take the time to match people with plans that fit them and their situations. We’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ones that look good until the fine print kicks in.

First of all, you would want to find out if your doctor is in one of the networks. Many doctors are. So it’s not a question of all the Medicare Advantage doctors good the question is is the doctor that you wish to see in the network although many plans allow you to go out of the network at a higher co-pay to any doctor that takes Medicare.

So we can find it a plan that fits you with very good benefits

Yes, as doctors become more popular, they have a regular client base, and more patients over time, they can service plans that pay them more. Usually, they can pick and choose the plans they accept, so I find they accept PPO plans and few if any, HMOs. If they are really great doctors, they only accept OM, Original Medicare.

Always look at what is important to you. Highly recommend screening your provider before selecting them. Keep in mind, you can always change your provider once a month on a Medicare Advantage Plan so that option is flexible.

Not necessarily better but many times more popular. There are many reasons people choose a particular provider. Often times, it is location dependent as well as reputation. Since they all have minimal requirements and benefits they must meet, it is more often about meeting the clients expectations than about being better.

All plans must cover the same core things like in medical policy itself. All plans will have hospitalization, therapy, specialists, emergency room, etc. Where plans will differ is network, copays, and referrals. Medicare Advantage plans will also differ whether they offer dental, vision and other ancillary benefits that entice consumers to join a plan.

The last component is the integration of part d in the health plan. Please review the drug formulary as they may differ from plan to plan.

Yes — some Medicare Advantage providers do perform better than others, but it really depends on where you live and what matters most to you. Each company has its own doctor networks, customer service reputation, and extra benefits like dental, vision, or flex cards. The best way to find the right fit is to compare local plan options each year to see which carrier offers the strongest coverage and value for your needs.

This question is asking almost the same as: Are some doctors (providers) better than others? And the answer to that question would be Yes because some doctors are better than others. A Medicare Advantage (MA) plan typically is offered within a geographic area - so there will be a grouping of doctors who are contracted to offer their services for that MA Plan. And generally speaking, doctors (Providers) are going to have varying levels of quality. However, a Medicare Advantage plan is very focused on the quality of care that their Plan doctors offer and there are standards that a doctor must meet in order to participate in the MA Plan contract. Generally speaking, we can say that MA plans (which are insurance companies) work to maintain quality, cost and patient satisfaction. Like anything, some people or organizations will excel among others and ensure that the highest quality is maintained. It is important that you take a look at the ratings of each plan in your enrollment decision making process.

Well, in choosing a plan it is important you consider that:

1 - your PCP or a specialist you want to keep has a contract with the plan and/or accepts the terms of the plan

2 - and is in network, particularly if choosing a HMO plan

3 - and the PCP / provider is accepting new patients (if you are not yet a patient)

Insurance is a financial tool and cost should be an important factor.

And, of course there are providers better than others, professionally.

Be well, and stay informed.

Are some Medicare Advantage providers better than others? Well, that depends on your perspective. So whatever you're looking for, if you're looking for a Medicare Advantage provider that has a customer service department that's solely in the U.S., then you may prefer one provider over another. If you're looking for a Medicare Advantage provider that has better dental coverage or better vision coverage, you might find a better plan through one provider than you would the other. That doesn't mean the provider's necessarily better.

So there are regulations that regulate the Medicare Advantage industry. If you think one provider is going to be better than the other, that's not necessarily true because they all have to adhere to the same laws regarding Medicare Advantage plans. So it really comes down to that customer service element, like what you prefer for customer service, and some of that you're just going to have to experience.

So my best advice is to go with the plan that is going to work better for you for that year. And if you're not pleased with their customer service when you call in and ask questions or something like that, or you're not pleased with how it works when you go to the dentist to get a filling or go to the eye doctor to get glasses, then maybe try a different provider if they have a plan that's going to be just as good for you.

But ultimately, what you're really looking for is not which provider's best. You're looking for the plan that's going to serve you better than the other plans, depending on your specific needs. So just keep that in mind, that it's not necessarily good to be brand loyal, but to be looking at what is going to work better for you, regardless of who provides the service.

Some Medicare Advantage plans can be better for individuals depending on needs (i.e. travel out of state, ease of communicating with member services, size of network, extra benefits offered).

Medicare does rate Medicare Advantage plans with a Star Rating (1 to 5).The higher the star rating, the more preferrable the plan. Ratings are based on several factors including member surveys, customer service, etc.

Meeting with a licensed and qualified broker will help you determine what your main health priorities are and what plans will be most beneficial to you.
