Angela is a great advisor! She is patient, thoughtful and super helpful. She worked with my husband and I over the course of a year while we were on Cobra to help us pick the best options for our family. Highly recommend!

Q&A with Michael Braun
What should I do if I miss the Medicare Open Enrollment period, and I want to change my plan?
Answer: If you are in lock in, after April 1, you can look to see if you can be granted a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) from CMS. You will need to file an appeal with CMS in order to get this processed. Sometimes, the state will issue a Special Enrollment Period during the year due to weather or network disruption. You can also qualify for a special enrollment period if you move as well.
If not, Annual Election Period is right around the corner come October 15.
What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?
Answer: There is no wrong plan as all of the plans have to cover what Medicare will. Medicare Advantage plans have a network of doctors and hospitals you will need to use. There are PPO and HMO plans, depending on whether or not which you prefer. There is no network when you use regular Medicare with a supplement. As a consumer, you have to identify what is most important to you as you access services.
Are some Medicare Advantage providers better than others?
Answer: All plans must cover the same core things like in medical policy itself. All plans will have hospitalization, therapy, specialists, emergency room, etc. Where plans will differ is network, copays, and referrals. Medicare Advantage plans will also differ whether they offer dental, vision and other ancillary benefits that entice consumers to join a plan.
The last component is the integration of part d in the health plan. Please review the drug formulary as they may differ from plan to plan.
Why are people leaving Medicare Advantage plans?
Answer: In my experience when someone leaves a Medicare advantage plan, it could do to network issues or pricing of a product. Someone also might move out of the county they currently reside in so the plan is not available in that market or county. Consumers also might want to try something different or have a physical problem so a change is necessary.
Are Medicare Advantage plans really "free," or is that just clever marketing?
Answer: The plans that are $0 premium are subsidized by the Federal Government to the carrier. The carrier in exchange provides a benefit level equal to and better than what the regular Medicare program can provide. There are copays associated with the plans but they are either free or have a low cost to the public. They can be a significant help to low income seniors and seniors that need additional benefits. Every Medicare beneficiary has a unique risk profile so meeting with an agent to discuss will help you decide what is best for the beneficiary.
What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?
Answer: The satisfaction of helping someone understand the benefits in the Medicare program. Just pure joy of helping someone through this transition to the next phase of benefits available to them.
