My doctor wants me to use a smartphone app for medication management and adherence. Are there any Medicare programs that support this type of digital health solution?

While there isn't a specific Medicare program dedicated to smartphone apps for medication management, Medicare Advantage plans (MA) can cover digital health solutions, including those that support medication adherence, and some apps are specifically designed for Medicare beneficiaries.
No typically Medicare does not cover medications and leaves that type of coverage and the management of it to the insurance carriers. I would use whichever app your doctor wants you to use to keep it more simple. There are many med management apps out there but your doctor may want to use a specific for a reason.
Original Medicare itself does not pay for any standalone medication reminder apps. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, the carrier could have an app or a feature in the member portal to help you with medication management.
I am not sure exactly what your question is. But I can tell you that having your medications on an app will be much easier to keep up with, for your pharmacist, for your doctor to reference, to put in you Medicare information, etc. Agents will also need a list of your medications to see which Medicare plan will cover them the best, not all plans are the same.
Since I only do sales, the only tools I am aware of regarding medications and Medicare, are those provided by the carriers. The carriers provide ways for their clients to view and order their medication more as a pricing tool. It allows client's to be aware of the monthly cost covered by the plan, their active prescriptions, their pharmacy, and any out-of-pocket cost they will need to cover themselves. So unfortunately, I am not aware of any apps directly linked to Medicare.
Yes, Medicare Advantage plans often support digital health apps for medication management and adherence, though Original Medicare does not directly cover them.
Yes, Medicare Advantage (MA) plans can offer coverage for smartphone apps that help with medication management and adherence, as part of broader digital health solutions. Many private MA plans are expanding their digital health offerings, including telehealth services like virtual visits and medication reminders through apps.
Medicare has limited but evolving support for digital health solutions like smartphone apps. While Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not directly cover most standalone medication management apps, certain related services and programs may apply
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, it might offer extra benefits like apps to help you take your medicine on time. Check with your plan or ask someone like me to help look it up!
Humana has a Medicare Advantage program that will manage medications through their mail order pharmacy, with your Smartphone you can add the Humana app that can help monitor the medications.
