How do I find local Dentists that take my Medicare coverage?

Answered by 38 licensed agents

Medicare does not cover dental services. They are usually included as an add-on in Medicare Advantage plans, but these are typically HMO dental plans, which may have a smaller network. If you see a specific dentist, I recommend asking your dentist which dental plans they accept and purchasing the plan with which your dentist is contracted.

You can ask your current dentist if they take your plan. You can ask your agent to check it for you. You can go online and search for dentists near you with your zip code on the insurance companies site.

If you're trying to find local dentists that accept Medicare, it's important to first understand the type of Medicare coverage you have. Original Medicare (Part A and B) generally does not include dental benefits, but many Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) do offer coverage for routine dental services such as exams, cleanings, x-rays, and even more comprehensive care like fillings, crowns, or dentures. To locate a Medicare dentist near you, start by visiting your insurance company’s website and using their provider search tool. You can also call the member services number on your Medicare Advantage card to request a list of in-network dentists in your area.

Another helpful step is to search online using terms like “Medicare Advantage dentists near me” or “dentists that accept [Your Plan Name] in [Your City or ZIP Code].” Be sure to confirm directly with any dental office to ensure they accept your specific Medicare plan, as provider networks can vary.

At Live Well Benefit Advisors, based in the Charleston and Summerville, SC area, we specialize in helping retirees and Medicare beneficiaries understand their options, including plans that offer strong dental coverage. If you're unsure what your current plan includes—or want to explore Medicare Advantage plans with dental benefits— our team can help you compare options, find local in-network dentists, and make the most of your Medicare benefits. Contact us to learn more or schedule a free consultation.

Finding a dentist that is part of your network can be as simple as calling your Medicare insurance provider. Some Medicare Advantage companies provide basic dental. If you have a Medical issue that involves dental it can open more options for providers.

before enrolling in any Medicare plan, it is important to confirm whether your dentist is in network to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket cost. While every plan offers an online provider directory for clients who aren’t comfortable with technology, I recommend calling your dental office to ask if they accept this particular plan.

If you were working through an agent to sign up for the plan, I would contact them as they will be able to provide you a complete list of dentists in your area as well as highlight the specific dental benefits covered by your plan. They can even filter the results to tailor them to what you may be looking for. If you just signed up for a plan by calling the company, you could look through your member portal, the company website or by calling their customer service directly.

Your carrier has a site where you can look up network providers for your specific plan. One of the advantages of working with an independent agent is that they can assist you in finding those providers

First, if you work with a local agent, s/he will be able to help you with this information. Otherwise, there are a few ways depending on how comfortable you are with technology. First, you can always go to your insurance carrier's website and look for the "find care" link to search your sip code. You can call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask. You can do a google search for dentists in your area using "dentists that bill ----- insurance." However, the most reliable way to know for sure is to call the dentist office and ask. Providers can change the insurances they accept at any time throughout the year, so the most accurate way is to call the office. Again, one of the benefits of working with a local agent is that the agent should help you with this information.

Check with the Customer Service for your provider. Another method is to check with your local insurance agent. They usually have access to a list. You may also have access to an online insurance account. Many or these provider accounts have links to dentists, doctors, and other medical services.

Routine dental care is not covered by original Medicare. If you have a Medicare Part C that does have dental coverage you can check the plans website to determine what providers are available. Also, you can call your dentist's business office for a list of plans that are accepted.

Medicare does not cover dental care. Many healthcare companies do have dental in their insurance plans. Their dental may be just cleanings or cleanings and comprehensive coverage. Each healthcare company uses different networks for dental. You can either call your current dentist to confirm they accept your plan or contact your local broker, who can look up a dentist for you.

Traditional Medicare Part A/B does not cover dental services unless medically necessary. You can purchase a separate stand-alone dental policy or consider enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan with dental coverage. The plan provider can help you find a dentist in the network.

determine if you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan with dental benefits. For Original Medicare, check if the dentist is enrolled with Medicare and if the specific procedure is covered. For Medicare Advantage, use your insurer's online directory to find in-network dentists. You can also use the Medicare Plan Finder to compare plans with dental coverage in your area.

I assume you are asking about an Advantage plan because dental is not covered under original Medicare. The best way to find a dentist who is in our Advantage plan network is to ask your agent, who signed you up for the plan, to send you a list of names! That's why you need an agent. Alternatively, you can look that up in their provider portal... good luck.

Start by calling the number on the back of your Medicare card and asking for a list of in‑network dentists in your zip code.

You can also use your plan’s website ‘Find a provider’ tool, type in your zip code, pick ‘dentist,’ and make sure to filter by your specific plan name so the results match your coverage.

Before you book, call the office to confirm they’re still taking your plan, because networks can change.

There are a few ways to do this. Most of the company websites will have a "physician finder" tool that lets you look up networks based on your plan. These may be a little bit tricky to navigate at first because they aren't very intuitive. The next option would be calling the customer service number for your plan. They are able to assist you as well. You could also contact the agent you work with and have them assist you. They should be more familiar with the finder tools or local networks in your area.

The question is, how do I find local dentists that take my Medicare coverage? You can do this in two different ways. Number one, if you're on a plan currently, you want to look at your summary of benefits and see where you need to go within the company's website that is your insurance. You can just do a provider search very easily. My personal favorite is by calling your dentist and asking them this exact question. This is very important because more and more dentists say they accept insurance, but they accept the insurance as an out-of-network provider. They'll accept all PPO plans but bill as an out-of-network provider. This is very, very important because if you call them and they say, "Do you take Aetna? Do you take Sigma? Do you take Mutual Omaha?" they'll say no because they're technically not in network, but they will accept on an out-of-network basis. So the best way to go about this is, number one, call your dentist. And number two, when you're looking for a dental policy, a standalone dental policy, you want to make sure it's a PPO. If your dental plan is within a Medicare Advantage plan, yes, you're going to get the most bang for your buck through the plan's resources. So you want to go to your specific plan on the company's website and look up the dental providers to find a provider.

Hello - Thank you for your question. Original Medicare doesn’t cover routine dental care. You’ll need a Medicare Advantage plan or separate dental insurance for that. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, please refer to their site to search for providers or call the carrier. A representative will help you.

If you already have a dentist that you have been seeing, just call their office and ask if they take the Medicare insurance that you have.

If you are looking for another one, or in a new area, just go to the Medicare insurance's website. Login and there you can find which dentists, doctors, and hospitals and in your network. There you will even find a bio with their education, experience, and specialty.

Check your evidence of coverage document for your insurance plan and locate the name/website of the dental plan associated with your Medicare plan. Quite often, the name of your dental plan will differ from the name of your Medicare plan. Once you find the name and contact info for your dental plan , utilize your plan’s website or call their customer service number to locate a network dentist in your area.

I always advise my clients that there are three ways to discover dentists (or doctors) that are in-network; 1) most plans have a member's website that they can use to learn of dentists in their area as well as obtain information that might be of interest such as contact information, gender of the dentist, etc., 2) call up your plan Customer Service number listed on the back of your card for assistance, or 3) Contact me. It is my job to not only make their plan easier to understand, but easier to use as well. Even if you are not currently my client, please don't hesitate to contact me for assistance. I am always happy to help with your current plan.
