Yes telemedicine is covered in most plans. Medicare Advantage plans cover it. Medicare Advantage plans have covered this for years.

Telemedicine is covered per Medicare deductibles and co-pays. However, Medicare Advantage plans may or maynot cover any medical providers, always verify all providers are in the plan networks as applicable.

A more difficult question. it would depend on the plan, the doctor, the theapy and if the diagnosis is benefited by coverage. If covered by a Medicare Supplement the coveerage would be better clarified. Advantage Plans could have less benefits.

Medicare normally covers mental health therapy with a telehealth option regardless if you live in a rural area or not. For other non behavioral health telehealth options after January 31 2026, the rules will change to require persons to be in a medical facility and a rural area. Check with Medicare.gov for a full description of the changes.

Yes. Medicare does cover mental health therapy by telehealth. You can talk with a licensed therapist or mental health professional by phone or video, as long as they accept Medicare or are in-network with your plan.

I know that this is a current type of care that is being focused on with Medicare, but I am not sure. I know that some Medicare Advantage carrier have this type of care in their coverage. That would be something you would be able to look at with a Medicare agent to see the summary of benefits for each plan.

Yes!

Medicare Part B covers telehealth visits for mental health and substance use disorder services — including therapy and counseling — when provided by:

Psychiatrists

Clinical psychologists

Licensed clinical social workers and counselors

You can receive care from your home, a clinic, or another approved location using video (and in some cases, audio-only) telehealth.

As of now, these telehealth mental health services remain covered through at least the end of 2026, thanks to recent Medicare extensions.

This means you can continue getting the support you need — safely and conveniently — wherever you are.

Medicare does provide for telemedicine mental health therapy, utilizing therapists, marriage and family counseling, social workers, and someone licensed for the condition. Medicare is an 80/20 plan, so the cost per session could be the remaining amount not covered by Medicare.

Telehealth can provide many services that generally occur in-person, including office visits, psychotherapy, consultations, and more. Through December 31, 2027, Medicare covers telehealth services that you can get from anywhere in the U.S., including your home. Examples of Medicare-covered telehealth services include:

Advance care planning

Cardiac rehabilitation services

Caregiver training services

Cognitive assessments

Depression screenings

Diabetes self-management training

Medical nutrition therapy services

Outpatient psychotherapy

Pulmonary rehabilitation services

Speech therapy

Medicare may cover more telehealth services than those listed above. Check with your doctor or other health care provider for more information about the services you can get through telehealth.
