Can I get SilverSneakers with Original Medicare?
Answered by 10 licensed agents
Medicare Supplement Plans or Medigap Plans are standardized by the government and do not include fitness benefits either as part of the standardized plans.
Fitness benefits like Silversneakers, Silver & Fit, Renew and One Pass to name some of the more common fitness benefits are often included in Part C or Medicare Advantage Plans. A Medicare beneficiary can identify which fitness benefit is included within the Medicare Advantage plan by reviewing the Evidence of Coverage or Summary of Benefits.
Some Medicare Supplement insurance carriers may offer a fitness benefit as an extra perk. However, this perk can vary from State to State even with the same insurance carrier. It is not very common to find a fitness benefit with a Medicare Supplement or Medigap plan. Mainly, you will find this benefit with Medicare Advantage Plans.

There are also a few Medicare Supplement companies that offer fitness benefits with certain plans, but it's not standard. If having a gym membership or fitness benefit is important to you, it's definitely something worth looking at when comparing your Medicare options.

Fitness programs such as SilverSneakers and Silver & Fit are offered exclusively through Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Part C.
Not all Medicare Advantage plans offer one of these fitness programs so it's important to verify before enrolling if that is an important benefit to you.

Medicare Advantage: Many Part C plans include SilverSneakers as an extra benefit at no extra cost.
Medigap Plans: Select supplement insurance policies bundle the membership, depending on the private carrier.
Independent Purchase: You cannot buy a standalone SilverSneakers membership if your current insurance plan does not already include it.

I recommend reaching out to an independent Medicare broker in your area. They can check which plans offer it in your area.
