Q&A with Renee Silver

Does Medicare cover assisted living?

Answer: Medicare generally does not cover the cost of assisted living when the primary purpose is help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, or supervision. However, Medicare may cover certain medically necessary healthcare services a person receives while living in an assisted living facility, but the cost of the assisted living facility itself is generally not covered by Medicare.

How can I select the right healthcare company and representative to work with?

Answer: Choosing the right healthcare company and representative starts with finding someone who listens, understands your needs, and takes the time to explain your options clearly. Look for a representative who provides trusted guidance, offers personalized support, and is committed to helping you make informed decisions—not just during enrollment, but throughout your healthcare journey.

Does Medicare cover Symbicort?

Answer: Original Medicare generally does not cover Symbicort when it is used as a self-administered prescription inhaler. Most beneficiaries receive coverage for Symbicort through a Medicare Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage (MAPD).

Many Medicare prescription drug plans cover Symbicort or its generic equivalent, but the cost depends on your specific plan's formulary.

Can I get SilverSneakers with Original Medicare?

Answer: Original Medicare does not provide SilverSneakers. However, if you choose a Medicare Advantage plan or have certain supplemental coverage, your plan may include SilverSneakers or a similar fitness benefit. Benefits vary, so it’s important to review the specific plan details.

Do both spouses need to submit Form CMS-L564 to prove coverage through one spouse’s employer?

Answer: No. Both spouses do not automatically need to submit Form CMS-L564. The form is used for the individual who is applying for Medicare Part B during a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to prove they had qualifying employer group health coverage after turning 65 (or during their Part B enrollment delay).

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: I believe working with a Medicare agent provides guidance, education, and peace of mind during an important healthcare decision. A dedicated Medicare agent takes the time to understand your unique needs, explain your options clearly, and help you find coverage that aligns with your healthcare needs and financial goals—not just during enrollment, but throughout the year.
