Does Medicare cover heart monitors?

Medicare does not cover devices like Apple Watch or a Fitbit. These are considered consumer electronics.

Medicare covers several types of heart monitors depending on your medical needs and your doctor's order.
What Medicare covers: Holter Monitors
A Holter monitor is a portable device you wear for 24 to 48 hours that continuously records your heart rhythm. Medicare Part B covers this when your doctor orders it for diagnosis or monitoring of a heart condition.
Event Monitors:
An event monitor is worn for a longer period — typically 30 days — and records your heart activity when you feel symptoms. Medicare Part B also covers this when medically necessary.

The question is, does Medicare cover heart monitors? It's kind of a generalized question. Normally, from my previous experience working as a nurse, when people say that they're going to be needing a monitor, they're wearing a Holter monitor. Those usually last about 24 to 48 hours. Sometimes you can wear certain monitors for 30 days.
What happens is Part B of your Medicare will cover the 80%, and then you're basically on the hook for the 20% unless you have a supplement in place. Now, sometimes with Medicare Advantage plans, you would still pay the 20% depending on the plan.
So the short answer is yes, there is coverage, but depending on the coverage that you do have, you'll either pay a percentage or hardly pay anything at all for it.

The heart monitor is considered a DME- Durable Medical Equipment and you may have to pay a portion of the cost- like 20%, depending on your type of plan.
