Does Medicare cover dermatology visits?
Answered by 8 licensed agents
Under Original Medicare, these services are generally covered by Part B, and you will typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after meeting your Part B deductible. However, Medicare does not usually cover routine skin checks or cosmetic procedures, such as skin tag removal or treatments performed solely to improve appearance.
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, medically necessary dermatology services are still covered, though copays, referrals, and network requirements may vary depending on the plan.

Voss Speros here, Greek god of Medicare. If Medicare is all Greek to you, you're in luck, I am Greek.
So the question today is, does Medicare cover dermatology?
Yes and no. Part B will cover dermatology if there's something suspicious. If you have cancer, yes, covered. Lesions, covered. Basic routine going into the dermatologist and getting your face checked, no. Also cosmetic stuff, it's not going to cover that. It's going to cover medically necessary reasons to keep you healthy.
So Advantage plans will have that built in as medically necessary. And then Part B, original Medicare, has it with a supplement.
I hope that helps. Let us know if you have any questions.
