There is no such thing as the "best" MAPD in any zip code. Many factors such as hospital and provider networks and prescription drug coverage must be taken into account. Additionally in and out of network maximum out of pocket (MOOP) varies significantly among plans: HMO's, PFFS's & PPO's. For example, there may be six HMO's available in a zip code and the MOOP can vary by $1000's per year. As well as the requirement for pre-authorizations and referral approvals before care can begin.
There is no single “best” MAPD plan in South Carolina — it depends on your county, doctors, prescriptions, and budget. Carriers like Aetna, Devoted Health, Wellcare, and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina often offer competitive 4-star or higher plans in many areas. The strongest plans typically balance low premiums, reasonable MOOP limits, solid Part D formularies, and broad provider networks. Star ratings, PPO vs. HMO structure, and local hospital participation should heavily influence the decision. The best plan is the one that aligns with your specific providers and medication profile.
The "best MAPD" plan is a very subjective question. Everyone thinks they have the best plan but the best plan is whatever is best for each individual's needs and budget. As a broker we have to make sure your doctors and meds are covered on the plan and then you have to see if there are other benefits that are important to you.
There is no way to say what is “best” for someone when it comes to health care because everyone’s needs are different. If you go to Medicare.gov, you can see all the plans available in your county. Then you can enter your medications and doctors to make sure everything is covered at the cost that works for you. After that, look for a plan that covers your medical needs at the lowest copays, coinsurance, and premiums. That way you’re paying the lowest cost for what you need. Any money you save due to lower premiums or copays, you can put towards the extras you need like dental and vision.
Choosing the best Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan in South Carolina for 2025 depends on your specific needs, but some top options include Aetna and Devoted Health, both earning 4.5-star ratings. Aetna offers multiple PPO plans with additional benefits, including dental and vision coverage, while Devoted Health is recognized for its excellent customer service and low out-of-pocket costs.
UnitedHealthcare also offers a 5-star special needs plan for individuals in nursing homes or those with certain chronic conditions.
Other solid choices include Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, Clover Health, and Cigna, which offer 4-star plans with some $0-premium options.
Because picking the right plan can be confusing, working with a local agent like Live Well Benefit Advisors can be a big help. We can guide you through the process, ensure your doctors and prescriptions are covered, and help you choose the plan that fits your needs and budget.
You can also use the Medicare Plan Finder tool on Medicare.gov for more details, but having a local expert makes it easier and ensures you make the best choice.
There isn’t one “best” MAPD plan in South Carolina, because it really depends on your doctors, prescriptions, and what benefits matter most to you. The smartest move is to compare top options like Aetna, Devoted, and BlueCross BlueShield, etc. based on your specific needs and budget.
Everyone’s needs are different. While that may sound cliché, it’s absolutely true when it comes to Medicare. Without understanding your unique situation—your doctors, prescriptions, and budget—I couldn’t responsibly recommend which plan would be best for you. That’s why I take the time to listen first, so we can find coverage that truly fits your needs.
That's a great question that can honestly not be simply answered without an individual review. In order to help you select the most appropriate plan for you, we would review a list of your doctors and other providers, in addition to your current medications list. Not all drug formularies are the same and networks certainly are not. Also, each person's preference may be different with what they would like to have and what isn't so important. Some plans may have a Part B giveback with higher co-pays. Dental benefits and other ancillary or additional benefits may or may not be offered and everyone's priorities are different. A good agent will take all these things into account and present options for you to make an informed decision.
There is not a "best" plan other than the plan that is right for you. This is a common mistake I see with Medicare Advantage plans and that is asking loved ones and other which plan is "best". Plans that are right for one person may be wrong for another person, it depends on which plans covers your doctors and medications properly and fits within you budget. Each plan can vary greatly on your out-of-pocket costs based on your situation.
It's hard to narrow plans down to the "best" plan. There are many good options. It all depends on if your doctors and medications are covered well. Working with a broker (someone like us) could help you figure out what plan is best based on your situation.
There isn't a single "best" MAPD plan for everyone in South Carolina; rather, the top-rated plans are Aetna and Devoted Health, which have plans with 4.5-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2025
Wow that is a loaded question. We would need to consider all factors that meet the client's needs. Any professional that will state that this is the best MAPD plan you need to end that appointment. Each MAPD plan must be structured toward the member
It is hard to say unless we know more about your needs. Historically we have found that Humana offers very good options. But they may not be the right plan for you. More information would be needed.
I cannot comment on this as I’m not licensed or certified for the state of South Carolina. Recommend contacting licensing agent or calling 800 number in your area.
You could look on medicare.gov and put in your zip code and drugs if you have any, and take a look at the information that will populate. MAPD plans are area specific, and the best MAPD plan depends upon your needs and the costs involved. If the information is too confusing, then I would suggest you looking into getting a Medicare insurance agent to help you.
We would need your zip code and date of birth to look at available plans in your geographic area. Please feel free to give me a call if you’d like to review (at no cost or obligation to you
Every persons situation and health status is different, which makes it impossible to answer what would be considered the “best” plan. Working with a broker will help narrow down the best options available for your and your situation.
Because I'm not licensed and appointed in South Carolina I am unable to comment about the best Medicare plan. Also, I'm not allowed to use the term best and describing Medicare Advantage plans.
To be able to answer that question accurately a broker would need to know your zip code since carrier plans are usually offered according to county. A carrier may offer a plan in one county but not in the next county over, or the carrier may offer the same plan in different counties but that plan may have different benefits.
This is why meeting with a Medicare Broker is important or of course you can use Medicare.gov to see what your options are for your area.
I would have to say that there are many good carriers, but my wife and I have been with Devoted Healthcare for 2 years, going into our 3rd year, and could never be more pleased with their services.
There are a lot of great plans in South Carolina. The 'best' can only be answered by the beneficiary that is looking for coverage. The reason is that everyone has different needs; doctors they want to see, medications they take, or health conditions they have. MAPD plans, like everything else in life, is not 'one size fits all'. This is why it's important to work with an agent you trust to find the plan that works best for you.
