What is the Medicare GLP-1 bridge program and how do I enroll?
Answered by 9 licensed agents
The GLP-1 Bridge program will be effective on 07/01/2026 and you must have your prescribing physician submit a faxed application, on your behalf, directly to CMS. Applications will not be accepted prior to 07/01/2026 and you must be approved by CMS to receive the $50/month co-pay benefit.
This program is only for Medicare enrollees who are taking specific GLP-1 medications (Wegovy, Zepbound and Foundayo) specifically for weight loss and meeting certain medical requirements associated with BMI.
If you are currently taking a GLP-1 for a medically necessary reason (diabetes, cardiovascular issues, sleep apnea) you will not qualify for this program but will be able to continue to receive your medications through your Medicare Part D PDP program.

Voss Speros here. Greek god of Medicare. Medicare's all Greek to you? You're in luck, I'm Greek.
So the question is, what is the Medicare GLP-1 bridge program? The Medicare, the what? Ozempic and the other injections for weight loss? Yes, Medicare has a program going on from July 1st of this year, 2026, to December 31st of 2027. If you qualify, you can get the GLP-1 weight loss drug for $50 a month. And that's pretty cool.
But there's some qualifying things you need for that. You need at least a BMI over 27, and some medical conditions. There has to be a reason why you need to lose weight for your health purposes.
So how do you enroll? You go to the doctor and you have them write a script. You have to have Medicare Part D, the prescription drug plan, because that's what's going to cover this.
So if you're over 27 BMI and you have some health issues like cardiac and diabetes and things like that, go to your doctor, see if you qualify. Write the script and submit it. If you get it, you get it. If not, then go back and we'll see what it takes.
If you have any questions, let us know. Hope that helps, and we'll talk to you soon.
