I moved to a different county in Illinois. Will I still have the same Medicare Advantage plan choices?

Not necessarily. Medicare Advantage plans are offered by specific service areas, which often vary by county. When you move to a different county, some of your current plan choices may no longer be available, while new plans may become available at your new address. A permanent move that changes your available coverage can also qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to select a new plan. Before moving or changing coverage, compare the Medicare Advantage plans available in your new ZIP code and confirm that your doctors and prescriptions are covered.

Medicare Advantage plans are based on service areas, so it depends on whether the plan you currently have also serves that exact same zip code area. You can contact your agent or broker, or go to Medicare.gov and enter your zip code to see which plans are available and which are available and if your current plan is among them.

When you move, your plan eligibility may change. Medicare Advantage plans are specific to each county. If your specific plan is not available in your new residence's county, you may be automatically disenrolled. You will be given a grace period, also known as a Special Election, to choose a plan that is available in your county.
