Does Medicare cover transportation to doctor appointments?

Answered by 5 licensed agents

Original Medicare only covers ambulance emergency transportation, Part B Medicare could cover some non emergency transportation only of deemed necessary by a medical doctor.

There are some Medicare Advantage plans that do assist in non emergency transport to doctors visits etc.

Standard medicare Parts A and B does not cover non emergency transportation, however, medicare advantage plans often will cover transportation to non emergent doctors appointments. Most of these plans will have a limit of how many they will cover, please speak with your medicare professional to clarify any limitations.

Medicare generally does not provide coverage for routine transportation, although some Medicare Advantage plans may offer transportation benefits if you meet certain criteria. Consult a local Medicare plan broker to explore your eligibility.

Very few Medicare advantage plans offer transportation. Original Medicare does not offer it. Check your plan benefits for details.
