Sometimes, but Medicare's coverage of alternative medicine is pretty limited.

Acupuncture is a good example. Original Medicare Part B covers acupuncture for **chronic low back pain**, but not simply for any condition. Medicare currently allows up to 12 treatments in 90 days, with up to 8 additional treatments if you are improving.

Chiropractic care is also limited. Medicare covers manual manipulation of the spine when it is medically necessary to correct a specific spinal problem. It does not automatically cover the X-rays, massage therapy, acupuncture or other services a chiropractor may provide.

Routine visits to a naturopathic doctor and many other alternative treatments generally are not covered by Original Medicare. Massage therapy, for example, is specifically excluded.

Medicare Advantage plans can be different. Some plans may offer additional benefits beyond Original Medicare, so don't assume a service is covered—or excluded—without checking the exact plan.

If you regularly use acupuncture, naturopathic care or another alternative treatment, I would ask a few questions before choosing Medicare coverage: What exact treatment do you receive? How often? Who provides it? And what does your specific plan say it will cover?

That matters because a provider may offer several services, but Medicare may pay for only one of them. Knowing that ahead of time can prevent a surprise bill.

Original Medicare generally does not cover naturopathic doctors or most alternative medicine. One exception is acupuncture for chronic low back pain, which Medicare Part B may cover for up to 20 treatments per year if certain requirements are met. Some Medicare Advantage plans may offer additional benefits, so it’s always a good idea to check your specific plan.

Under ORIGINAL Medicare part A & B these are considered alternative medicine therefore they are generally only covered in few specific situations. 
-Acupuncture is covered only for chronic low back pain lasting at least 12 weeks as well as meeting Medicare's criteria. 
-Naturopathic doctors are not recognized by Medicare as Naturopathic doctors but may be recognized as other specialist types

Acupuncture is covered if deemed medically necessary but only for chronic lower back pain. Medicare typically does not cover other forms of naturopathic medicine. If you are concerned about your treatment options, particularly in the event of a severe illness, like cancer, heart attack, stroke, or end stage renal failure, I recommend considering adding a critical illness policy that will pay a single lump sum upon diagnosis, which you can use however you like. Usually it does not cover, however some exceptions apply, acupuncture is usually for chronic lower back pain, usually naturopathic visits are not covered, ask first for exact plan and have then do a prior authorization to see what you may pay.
