Typically, your Medigap or Medicare Supplement plan would be the same exact coverage as the plans are standardized by the federal government. However, there are three states where the standardization rules are different. What that means is if you move to or from these states, the standardization would be different. The three states are Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. What you will want to know is if you current insurance carrier will continue to offer insurance in the new state that you are moving to. Also, please be aware that your premium or rate can change from state to state as you change your address.

Working with a Medigap plan is a little easier than people expect when moving. In most cases, you keep the same standardized coverage nationwide, but your premium could go up or down based on your new zip code. Letting the insurance company know ahead of time helps make the transition smoother.

That is a good question. You should notify your Insurance Company of your address change and once they update it, if your current Insurance Company is licensed in that State to offer a Medicare Supplement insurance policy then your rate will change. If your current Insurance Company doesn't offer Medicare Supplement insurance coverage in that State, then you have 60 days from your move date to apply for a Medigap insurance policy with another Insurance Company. Thank you.

In most cases, you can keep your Medicare Supplement plan when you move—even to another state.

Medigap plans are portable nationwide and work with Original Medicare, which is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The company that you have your M Medicare supplement plan with is able to move it to the state that you were moving to and look at your new ZIP Code and they are able to change your plan that way. It’s very easy. Also, if your agent is licensed to sell in that state, they will retain you as a client.

If you move you need to inform your company of your new address. The rate may change. That is all that will happen. You should contact a local agent to get any help you may need.

Medigap plans are designed to go throughout the country, so you have coverage wherever you go. The only thing needed to do is change their drug plan because all drug plans dont go to everywhere.

Medigap policies, also known as Medicare Supplement policies, will cover you no matter where you live in the United States. Certain levels of Medigap coverage even provide up to 80% coverage outside of the U.S.

In general, geographic restrictions apply only to Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.
