No most Advantage plans do not cover international travel. I always suggest that my clients purchase travel insurance when traveling outside of the US.

Short answer: generally, no — and this surprises a lot of people.

Most Medicare Advantage plans do not cover routine care outside the United States. If you get sick or injured while traveling internationally, you're largely on your own.

There are a few exceptions worth knowing:

Some plans offer emergency-only coverage in foreign countries — but it's limited, and you'll likely still have out-of-pocket costs

Certain Special Needs Plans (SNPs) may have different provisions depending on the carrier

Cruise ship coverage is a gray area — if the ship is in U.S. waters, you may have some coverage; once you're in international waters, probably not

Most Medicare Advantage plans do not cover international Travel. If you need coverage for international travel I would look into a Medicare Supplement. Several of the Supplements offer international coverage.

Yes, Medicare Advantage plans cover you worldwide using the urgent and emergency care benefit. If traveling internationally, contact your carrier for urgent and emergency locations in the area you're traveling. You may use any facility, but it's best to know in advance where they're located in proximity to your stay.

Emergency and urgently needed services anywhere in the world would be covered. Having treatment "just because" would not be covered

International expenses vary from plan to plan. If you travel frequently out of country discuss these specifics with your Medicare advisor before enrolling in a plan.

Yes, some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans cover international travel, but coverage is generally limited to emergency and urgent care, and it varies significantly by provider. It's important to check with your plan provider before traveling outside the country to understand whether your plan offers emergency travel benefits and how claims or reimbursement are handled
