If you are turning 65, your window to enroll starts 3 months before the month you turn 65 (aka your birth month), can enroll during your birth month, and then 3 months following your 65th birth month for a total of a 7 month enrollment window to enroll for newly eligible beneficiaries.
Please be aware that your Part B coverage will be retroactive to the eligibility date if the processing happens after the eligibility date.
Example:
If you apply in August 15th, 2026 for Part B and requested an effective date of September 1st, 2026 (Your Birth Month because your birthdate is Sept 8th), the application may not be processed on or before Sept 1, 2026, but your coverage will be retroactive to Sept 1, 2026 and is based on your first eligible date. It is not based on your application date or when SSA processes the application.
