Q&A with Soledad Ramirez
What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?
Answer: It's very important if you are retiring and delaying your Part B, you will need form L-564 filled out and signed by your employer indicating you have had CREDIBLE COVERAGE from age 65 until you date you retire - OR Social Security WILL add a penalty to your Part B premium which is for the REST of your LIFE!
What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?
Answer: That is PAYS for EVERYTHING. That it covers Long Term Care - although you only have 100 total days (lifetime) of Assisted Living care after a surgery or stay in the hospital.
How will the new 2025 Medicare Part D out-of-pocket cap impact seniors and prescription drug costs?
Answer: It will help if you are taking many prescriptions that are high in costs - as it caps it at $2,000/year - if you are not, then it may impact you adversely as the drug plan premiums are now high in costs.
If a senior is turning 65 but still working, should they enroll in Medicare or delay it?
Answer: If they work for a company that has more then 20 employees and the coverage is being paid in FULL then YES delay until retirement - IF you work at a company with less then 20 employees, then YES enroll into Medicare - ALSO if you are paying a portion of your coverage at work - it's BEST to see what it would cost if you were on your OWN - it could be quite less and BETTER coverage and lower costs in general.
What are some ways to ensure your parents feel supported during the Medicare decision-making process?
Answer: Working with a local agent as we do NOT charge for our services - we are certified, licensed and trained on all products and can provide unbiased options and in-depth information that is very valuable.
Which Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) offers the best value for most seniors, and why?
Answer: It depends on where you live and your age for the most part - so it's best to do a needs assessment and then shop around for the best plan rates as they are standardized by the Federal Government and can be used anywhere in the US that a doctor takes Medicare Assignment.
Why do some seniors end up paying lifelong penalties for Medicare Part B or Part D?
Answer: Because they didn't enroll in a timely manner for Part B and Part D - they were given poor information from their Plan administrators OR they had NO idea they had to enroll.
Do I have to answer health questions when switching from one Supplemental/Medigap plan to another?
Answer: Only when it's a NON - Guaranteed issue time frame - which are when you do it during the year and not on your birthday month or when you enroll after your 6 months of turning 65.
What is the biggest disadvantage of Medicare Advantage?
Answer: You have to stay in your network and if it's an HMO you have to obtain referrals to see your specialist doctors.
