Am I eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if I lose employer coverage?
Answer: Yes, usually to enroll into Medicare you have Enrollments Periods, if for some reason you missed your Initial Enrollment Period when you turned 65 or if you delayed part B, then you have a Special Enrollment Period when you lose employer coverage, the window is 8 months to enroll into Medicare part A and/or B and 2 months for Medicare Advantage Plans.
What are some ways to save on prescription drug costs?
Answer: There is a program called "Extra Help" or LIS (Limited Income Subsidy) that is administered by Social Security Office to help to reduce the cost of your prescriptions such a deductible, premiums or/and copays for your current prescription plan. There is no cost to apply.
I picked a Medicare Advantage plan last year, and I'm not sure if my hearing aids are covered. How do I figure this out?
Answer: You can find out that in the summary of benefits or evidence of coverage for your current insurance carrier.
If a senior is turning 65 but still working, should they enroll in Medicare or delay it?
Answer: You need to enroll in part A regardless if you still working or not after turning 65, however for part B, if you current employer offer a health insurance that is creditable as good as Medicare then you don’t need to enroll into the letter B and can be delayed without incurring penalties in future.
What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?
Answer: Medicare is FREE and it covers everything. There are some premiums, deductibles, coinsurances and possible penalties if you don’t sign up on time. There some gaps in prescription, dental, vision and other benefits, Medicare itself it’s not enough.
What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?
Answer: Make sure the plan you picked has coverage for all your doctors and medicines, plans varies from networks and formularies. Also very important to pick a plan from value perspective rather than just benefits/copays.
