Q&A with Jessica Kleinsasser

What benefits are there to working with a Medicare Agent near me vs remote/virtual?

Answer: It is easier for a local agent to review any prescriptions or healthcare questions in person versus remotely. In person you can get your questions answered more in depth.

What is the main benefit of Medicare Part D?

Answer: Part D is for prescription benefits. It is labeled as optional but if you do not take it, there is a penalty that stays on for life. The penalty is charged monthly on top of any part A or B premiums, along with any plan premiums.

What is the biggest disadvantage of Medicare Advantage?

Answer: Medicare Advantage has higher copays and a maximum out of pocket. The premiums are lower and fluctuate slightly year to year, but do not increase yearly due to age. Both Advantage and Supplements require you to have Medicare Part B to enroll. Advantage does have in and out of network providers, not all cover out of network.

When will my provider send my Annual Notice of Change?

Answer: Providers are required to send out their Annual Notice of Change letter by September 30. 2026 plan changes are finalized at this time and can then be made public. October 15 plans may start taking applications if a member feels another plan benefits them more or if their plan is discontinued.

Am I responsible for an IRMAA surcharge?

Answer: The IRMAA monthly amount can be appealed if you have majorly reduced your income by retiring or you have had a qualifying life event . You can file form SSA-44 IRMAA Life-Changing Event form, but you are responsible to pay the monthly amount. If your appeal is approved they may retroactively refund your payments. IRMAA will also be recalculated every year after retirement which could possibly lower your payments.

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: It is always a pleasure to create new friendships by assisting with healthcare, prescription, ancillary products with under 65 and retirees. Medicare can be confusing especially to someone thinking about retiring or on disability. Medicare education can be a key factor for planning out your retirement options.
