Q&A with Gabriel Honer
I'm turning 65 next month and the amount of Medicare mail I'm getting is overwhelming. How do I sort through all this?
Answer: Although the mail can be helpful with finding a good plan to start looking at using a Local Broker or Medicare.gov is enormously helpful. Brokers are very good at educating and understanding the details for that area as well as finding a plan with your doctors and prescriptions being covered.
My parent takes several brand name prescriptions, how do we know which plan saves the most money overall?
Answer: Theres 2 good options I've found doing work in this industry. The first would be finding a local Medicare agent that brokers with all of the different companies. The other solid option would be to go onto Medicare.gov and input all of the prescriptions then filter for cost low to high. The benefit of having the agent is they understand each fine detail that goes into how these plans actually work.
Can Medicare pay for my groceries?
Answer: Short answer no, Original Medicare will not pay for your Groceries. Although, there are a few Advantage (part C) plans that do provide a grocery benefit but that depends on if that type of plan is in your county and for certain plans that can also depend on if you are receiving Medicaid benefits.
After a surgery, should I expect out-of-pocket costs?
Answer: Depends on what plan you have in place. If you have an advantage plan (part C) those have co-pays. If you have a supplement (Medigap) in place depending on what you have they can either be completely covered or a very small copay.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: The advantage of working with an agent is that agents understand the inner workings of Medicare and all the changes as well as saving you a ton of time every year. What my clients appreciate most of all is that a lot of times ill save them money on prescriptions or specialist visits or get them supplemental benefits that arent always advertised.
I'm on an expensive specialty medication. Will the 2025 Part D changes help someone in my situation?
Answer: Realistically it depends on what plan you are actually on since part D is through different companies with different prescription formularies. Checking online or with a local broker who inputs your prescriptions into the formulary may save you a ton of money!
