Dawn Gonsoulin, Medicare Insurance Broker
About Me
As a Franklin, LA native and a proud Nicholls State University Marketing graduate, I've transitioned from successfully running a lawn and landscape business in Houma to focusing on helping individuals, families and groups with their insurance needs in Lafayette and Florida.
Now as a licensed independent insurance broker, I assist individuals with the complexity of Medicare, as well as, individual/family and group health insurance options. My goal is to provide personalized, no-cost services to help them find the best coverage to protect their future financially and medically.
Throughout my career, I have worked at giving clients peace of mind that their needs were addressed, and goals defined. I promise to listen, question, and then build coverage that meets their expectations.

Q&A with Dawn Gonsoulin
My friend gets SilverSneakers with her plan and I don't-how are we both paying for Medicare and getting such different stuff?
Answer: It depends on what type of Medicare insurance you have. Because your insurance is based off your zip code, the benefits may be different from zip code to zip code no matter whether it is a Medicare Advantage or Supplement Plan. Most Medicare Advantage plans offer gym memberships and some may not. If you have a Medicare Supplement and Individual drug plans, some of your Supplement companies may offer discount programs for gym memberships.
Does Medicare cover eye exams, or are seniors left paying too much?
Answer: On original Medicare, routine eye exams are not covered. On the hand, most Medicare Advantage Part C plans do have some coverage for eye exams.
How do you explain to clients that "zero-premium" doesn't mean "zero-cost" with Medicare Advantage?
Answer: Most Medicare Advantage plans may have a zero dollar premium. This doesn't mean all benefits with the plan will have a zero cost to it. Most benefits in a Medicare Advantage plan have copays or coinsurances associated with the services rendered. There are some benefits like a primary care visit or labs that may have a zero dollar cost. The only members who have zero dollar cost to them are the individuals who are enrolled in Medicare and is a Full Medicaid recipient.
I signed up for a Medicare Advantage HMO, and I'm wondering if I can see a cardiologist out of network without paying everything myself.
Answer: Unfortunately no, Medicare Advantage HMO plans follow a certain network of doctors. If you decide to see a doctor outside of the network, then you will be responsible for all charges associated with the service.
If I have been on disabilty due to an accident, do I qualify for Medicare Insurance?
Answer: You have to be declared disabled for 24months before you can apply for Medicare. You will have to contact Social Security to get qualified.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Medicare is a complicated system with many moving parts and can be confusing for individuals. If not setup correctly from the beginning, it could cost the individual more money than is needed to be spent. Medicare agents/brokers are licensed individuals. They are required to train and test with the Federal government and all the carriers they represent. They understand all the ins and outs of the Medicare system and can guide you to make an informed decision. They can help you determine if you qualify for certain programs in your community.
My friend said she got a free annual physical with Medicare, but my doctor billed me. What's going on?
Answer: More than likely your doctor coded the bill wrong. You need to contact your doctor to make sure it was coded as an annual preventive appointment to be covered at $0.
