Does Medicare Part A or Part B pay for an emergency room visit, and does it change if I am admitted?
Answer: I am assuming you are on Original Medicare. It changes based on if you are admitted. If you go to ER and are not admitted. Part B pays and you pay deductible $257 and 20% coinsurance.
If you are admitted you pay the $1676 and $0 for days 1-60. If you have a Plan G or Plan N will help offset the costs of the deductibles and coinsurance.
I have VA health benefits and Medicare — which one pays first when I get care?
Answer: Its two seperate systems and they don't work together. If you get medical care at the VA the VA pays.
If you get care at a civilian provider, Medicare pays.
There is no penalty for carrying both. Many of my clients have VA benefits and a Medicare Adv plan with benefits specifically allocated to pick up things the VA does not. It's a great situation to be in. Talk to a local independent agent.
How do I find a Medicare agent licensed in both Colorado and Florida who can help snowbirds choose a Medicare Supplement plan?
Answer: What really matters is where your declared state of residence actually is. Which state holds your drivers license, voter registration, income tax filing address. That's what matters. If th answer is FL find an independent FL agent. If its Colorado, then find a licensed CO agent. CO has the Birthday rule which allows a plan change without underwriting in Med Sup Plans. which allows you to change if you plan to have a Medicare Supplement./ If you are looking at MEd Adv FL offers a richer array of included benefits. this come sup with many of my NY/FL clients and is similar situation.
My Part D plan charges a percentage instead of a flat copay for my specialty drug. How do I find a plan with lower coinsurance?
Answer: Contact an independent agent licensed in your state who can look at several different carrier formularies and best advise you on your options. Coinsurance rates matter and that's what your paying. There are ways to look up different plans based on total estimated yearly cost. Good Luck!
I want to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan, How do I do that?
Answer: Get in touch with a local agent in your area or state. Preferably, an independent agent that can go over several different carriers in your zip code. There are some restrictions as to when and how you can switch, but a licensed agent worth their salt can help you with the timeline and exceptions to enrollment periods.
My Medicare PPO Blue plan in Massachusetts has lapsed. What options do I have for getting new coverage?
Answer: I would advise you to reach out to a Massachusetts independent insurance agent. He/she can help you pivot to other plans offered in your area.
If Medicare skilled nursing facility coverage runs out before discharge, can you self-pay to stay in the same facility another month? Would that affect when Medicare coverage can restart?
Answer: Yes, you can self-pay to stay. Part A skilled nursing coverage is limited to 100 days per benefit period. Facilities will usually let you stay as a private-pay resident (or under long-term care insurance, or Medicaid if you qualify and the facility is certified). Medicare doesn't cover custodial care, meaning help with bathing, dressing, and similar needs, so that's what you'd generally be paying for.
This does not start or stop the Medicare Restart.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: An independent agent can research several carriers available in your area... not just carrier X. This means an agent can sift through all his/her contracted plans in your area to give you the information you need to make the decision that suits your needs and wants.
