Q&A with Thomas Brady
Can a Medicare Supplement insurer cancel my Medigap policy?
Answer: They can if they become insolvent and go out of business, otherwise no . If that were to happen you would be granted another guaranteed issue period to enroll into another Medicare Supplement without worrying about health underwriting questions.
I've got a Medicare Advantage plan, and I'm curious if my upcoming eye surgery is fully covered or if I'll owe extra out of pocket.
Answer: You will probably have an outpatient hospital co-pay or if it’s done in a doctor’s office or a free standing surgical center , there would probably be a co-pay as well . Generally if done in a free standing surgical facility the co-pay is a little lower than if done at the hospital.
What's the best way for seniors to protect themselves from Medicare-related scams?
Answer: I wouldn’t answer the phone especially if a scam alert is on there . Do not divulge any of your personal information, including name , date of birth, address, let alone Medicare ID number, or social security number. Don’t enroll over the phone. These frauds may enroll you over the phone without you knowing it , they may tell you your doctor in network, which I have seen happen, which was a lie . Call your doctors and ask if they accept the plan you are interested in . Try to deal with an agent or broker you know and trust. Those are my recommendations. Good luck.
