Q&A with Paula Keown

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: When I teach Medicare classes at our local public library, I always emphasize that working with a Medicare Agent/Broker doesn't cost you. I think that it is important to work with a trusted, experienced professional to help guide you through the process. It is important to have that knowledge working for you. I have received many calls from people who tried to figure out Medicare on their own, and they called me after they ran into problems. So, my advice is to start using an agent/broker from the start.

Find a local agent who focuses on education. You want to find an agent who will show you the options and help guide you through the decision-making process based on your needs, your wants, and your budget. Ultimately, this is your health care, and you need to be in the driver's seat.... not someone else deciding for you.

Can Medicare pay for my groceries?

Answer: Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not pay for groceries. However, there are certain Medicare Advantage plans that do have grocery benefits that you can qualify for. To check your eligibility for these benefits, please check with a local Medicare Broker Agent.
