I had a very positive experience with 65 Medicare! I started researching about 6 months prior to turning 65 and spoke to Garret. It was definitely a very productive call. I learned a lot about the process of applying. We went over different options before setting on a plan that suited my needs and cost. I decided to get a better plan with less deductibles over the year. Figured I'd rather be safe than sorry. I would recommend Garrett to anyone! Nothing but positive experience!

Q&A with Garrett Ball

I'm still working at 67, and I don't know if I need Part B. Why is something so basic so hard to figure out?

Answer: You do not need Part B if you are covered by a group/employer plan that is primary to Medicare (if employer has more than 20 employees). You can delay Part B enrollment and add it later, without penalty, through a special enrollment period (https://www.ssa.gov/medicare/sign-up/part-b-only).

I'm on Medigap Plan G, and I'm curious how my upcoming knee replacement surgery will be billed. Does the plan cover it all after my deductible?

Answer: Yes, it will be covered in full by Medicare and your Plan G. After the deductible is met, Medicare pays 80% and the Plan G pays the other 20%.

I'm turning 65 next month and the amount of Medicare mail I'm getting is overwhelming. How do I sort through all this?

Answer: There are really two options - one, on your own. There are plenty of videos and written information. It is/will be very time-consuming to get rates and ratings for each insurance option and make an informed choice. Option 2 is with help - you can either use a council on aging/SHIIP type program (if you can get someone who knows what they are talking about) or you can use an independent broker. Independent brokers can help you compare all options in a centralized place and using one does not cost you anymore than you will pay anyway.

Does Medicare cover Ozempic and other drugs prescribed for weight loss?

Answer: Medicare Part D, the part of Medicare that covers prescription drugs (sold through private insurance companies) does not cover Ozempic or other drugs in the same category when they are prescribed for weight loss. Many Part D plans do, however, cover Ozempic when prescribed for Type 2 diabetes. The coverage, and your share of the costs, varies depending on which Part D plan you have. But to reiterate, at the current time, Medicare Part D does not cover Ozempic or similar drugs for the prescription indication of weight loss.
