Q&A with Eva Peterson

Do I have to answer health questions when switching from one Supplemental/Medigap plan to another?

Answer: If you live in a state that allows you to switch using the birthday rule, you can switch in and around your birthday month to another plan that is equal to or lesser than your current Med. Supp. Plan. So, it does depend what state you are in.

My pharmacist mentioned the Medicare "donut hole" is going away in 2025. What does that actually mean for me?

Answer: That means that the max you will pay for prescriptions per year is now capped at $2000/year. It was $8000 so this will help consumers reduce their prescription costs. Contact me if you need more questions answered or any assistance.

My diabetes medication is super expensive, and I've heard horror stories about Part D not covering what people need. Should I go standalone Part D or get it through a Medicare Advantage plan?

Answer: Different carriers cover differently so you should review your meds with a broker. This is at no cost to you ever and I’m happy to work with you to help you make the right choice. Contact me, Eva Peterson. Looking forward to speaking with you!

What's the trade-off between a Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO when it comes to flexibility?

Answer: PPOs offer more choice and access to providers, including out-of-network care and usually have a low monthly premium. You will pay differently if you seek out-of-network care but you do have the option to do so.

HMOs restrict you to their network and usually cost $0.00/mo. and you will not be able to go out of network to get care. If you do not have specific doctors that you want or need to stay with, then an HMO would work fine for you. Your doctor may also be in network with the HMO, and that's something your broker should be checking before you enroll to assist you in selecting the right plan.

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: I like helping people figure out what the best choices are for their unique situation. I like leaving people with peace of mind, whether they become my client or not.
