What is a Medicare OTC card, and how do I find out if my plan includes over-the-counter benefits?
Answer: A Medicare OTC card is a benefit offered by some Medicare Advantage plans that gives members a set allowance to purchase eligible over-the-counter health products, such as vitamins, pain relievers, first-aid supplies, and personal-care items. Not every Medicare plan includes this benefit, and the amount and eligible products can vary by plan.
My mom is being discharged to a rehab facility after her hospital stay. How many days will Medicare pay for, and what will we owe?
Answer: In a Rehab Facility, after a hospital stay, Days 1-20 are "free" because you've already paid for this through your taxes. For days 21-100, you will pay $217 and Medicare covers the rest. For Days 101+ you are responsible for 100% of the cost.
Why do some ZIP codes get better Medicare Advantage benefits than others?
Answer: Medicare Advantage benefits aren't one-size-fits-all. Your ZIP code determines which plans are available in your area, and the insurance companies receive different amounts from Medicare depending on the local market.
