Q&A with Daniel Olofsson

Can You Be Denied a Medicare Advantage Plan?

Answer: Generally, if you're eligible for and have Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), you can't be denied enrollment into a Medicare Advantage plan, as long as you live in your chosen plan's service area.

Before deciding upon a plan, make sure your Doctors and Hospitals are in Network and your prescriptions are in the formulary.

Medicare Advantage plans can be full of extra benefits like prescription drug coverage, dental, hearing, and vision coverage. Another advantage of a Medicare Advantage plan is a mandatory out-of-pocket maximum---They basically come in two flavors---a PPO and an HMO.

Again, You are eligible for a Medicare Advantage plan if you have Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). Even those on Medicare under 65 due to disability may enroll. You may sign up for a Medicare Advantage policy if you live in your chosen plan's service area.

Can my daughter work with a Medicare agent or broker on my behalf?

Answer: Does your daughter have your power of attorney to discuss and act on your contract needs?

If she does, then she can discuss on your behalf.

If she does not, she can sit in on conversations.

Does everyone pay the same for Medicare?

Answer: No everyone does not pay the same for Medicare. Unfortunately, some people pay more for the same coverage with no additional benefits.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: You should ONLY work with an agent who is licensed and certified. You should work with an agent who represents more than 1 insurance company so that you can compare what each company offers to you.

You should consider your first enrollment as an educational period--where you get a crash course in the best coverage for the lowest rate. There is no reason to overpay.
