I live in Tennessee, turn 65 in August, and signed up for Medicare Part A only. I have coverage through my wife’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, which she’ll keep for about seven more years. Will I owe a penalty now or later if I wait until she retires to get Part B?
Answer: No, you will not owe a penalty if you wait to get part B as long as it is creditable coverage through your wife's employer.
What should people know about Medicare and its parts?
Answer: The more you know, the better informed your choices can be. At a minimum, understand how each of the parts relates to your financial and healthcare needs.
How can I avoid or reduce IRMAA charges on my Medicare premiums?
Answer: I recommend consulting a financial advisor who can help you manage your income items that contribute to the calculation of the MAGI that is used to calculate IRMAA charges
I just got a $300 bill for an ambulance ride I thought was covered. Am I the only one who didn't know Medicare doesn't pay for all emergency transport?
Answer: That is a common issue for Medicare beneficiaries. That is why it's importantbto work with a licenced broker to fully understand your coverages and where any coverage gaps may be in your plans.
Will I get an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) every year?
Answer: Yes. Insurance providers send out the ANOC each year even if you make no changes to your coverage. It updates you on changes that they have made to the plan for the upcoming plan year.
What are disadvantages of HMO?
Answer: The biggest disadvantage to an HMO is that you have to stay in network and have to have referrals from your primary care doctor for all other care. Additionally, not as many doctors like to accept HMOs.
Does Medicare cover vision care?
Answer: Original medicare doesn't cover vision but Medicare advantage plans typically have some type of vision benefits included in the plan.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: A Medicare agent typically has a good understanding of the plans in your area and can help find the most appropriate plan for you that works well with your needs and your budget.
I'm considering a smartwatch that monitors my heart rhythm for atrial fibrillation. Will Medicare help cover this type of wearable technology?
Answer: It's unlikely that original medicare will cover it since they are not medically necessary DME. If you have a Medicare advantage plan, it is still unlikely, but they may have some type of coverage for a similar device included in the plan.
